Who here owns a Renaultsport?

I have a quick question. As I've never had a car with power steering I don't know if this is normal behaviour, also because I know the PAS pump needs replacing I'm not sure if it could be caused by that.

So, my question is, does Power Assisted Steering sometimes steer the car for you? I don't know how else to explain this. But sometimes it feels like the car is trying to steer me off the road. For example, the power steering seems to be following the camber of the road if it happens to be big. I hope I have explained this properly. It's not that bad, but I've noticed it on a couple of occasions.

Also, when I put my foot down in 1st or 2nd the steering becomes very light. I guess this is just because all the weight is on the back of the car, but it has nearly caught me out once or twice.

I'm possibly exaggerating slightly and just worrying for the sake of worrying but I thought I'd ask.

Had that with mine, turned out to be play in the track rod ends. I had them replaced/new tyres/tracking done after and it has eliminated the issue for me.

Hmm that's interesting. Well it's in on Tuesday for the PAS pump to be replaced so I'll ask them to check it over for me as well. The tracking is definitely out, but only ever so slighting.

It had a service in December 09 (before I bought it) but I'm wondering whether it's worth getting another one done for peace of mind. I hope this doesn't become a money pit :p

Other than the PAS whine, the car is awesome :)

How much are Renault likely to charge for a B service on a 172? Im about 8k away from the next 36k belt change milestone so want to seperate these 2 costs out as much as possible.

Anyone on here track prepped a 172/182? I've only had mine a month yet im already decided that when I replace it, I want to keep it, strip it out, Recaro it up with some new suspension, and track it hell! :)

Roughly how fast do you 182 owners have to be going before the back end feels like it's going out?

I can hit a corner at about 45-50 (at a guess, might be quicker) and it slightly over steers. It feels very controllable (and much nicer for me than under steer), but just wondering if this is normal.

You can get low speed lift of oversteer around mini roundabouts if you try.

But it all depends on a huge number of things e.g. road surface, road wet or dry, angle of the corner, camber, acceleration/deceleration....

Well it's in at the moment having the PAS pump replaced so I've asked them to test drive it (the guy used to own a 172 so should know roughly how the 182 will handle). So I'll see if there is anything untoward.

Driving my old car yesterday and today SUCKED!

The ability to make the car dance about on its nose under fast cornering is going to leave me in a ditch :)

Its great, tells you so much through the wheel as the back end starts to dance a bit, then you can control it with slight throttle and steering tweaks. Trouble is, it encorages you to go faster :(

Id love to get it stripped down and on some track suspension and tyres, but I need a daily :(

God I love this car already, who needs power when you can have this much fun!

Miss mine sometimes until i remember how much it cost me to keep on the road! Would still have another just to blast about in though.

Yours was turbo'd though, so you can't really compare the running costs and reliability to the standard cars these guys are running.

Did you get the mechanic to test drive it? What was the result?

He only tested it after the PAS pump was replaced and he said it was perfectly fine. It does seem a little better, I think most of it is down to me not yet knowing the car very well, and having only driven a Corsa for 7 years! :p

The steering does feel a little better now the power steering is sorted though.

Soooo My 182 with both cup packs came with the following -

RS Tuner Remap
Eibach sportline springs
BMC carbon induction kit

Since i have owned it ive popped a splitter on it as it had lost its orignal somewhere along the way and on the weekend i fitted some brembo discs / pagid RS4 pads ( which has sorted the braking out beyond my expectations ... wooo )

What would you look at doing next ? Any nice little handling mods i can look at doing. I dont really want to start changing suspension but will be getting some 15' wheels wrapped in some 888s in a few months. Exhaust would be a nice touch and i had a miltek on my previous trophy but to be honest its all for the noise and im not too fussed about that at the moment as it seems like a bit of a waste of money.

Cheers

Sam

P.S

For anyone wanting a splitter which i think makes a MASSIVE improvment if you dont have one try the skoda octavia splitter. I got it for £11.00 at my local dealer ... a steal considering the official ones price of over £100

In no particular order....

Whiteline ARB (adjustable)
Yozzasport exhaust
Coilovers?

It all depends on how much you are willing to spend, matched inlets are another option. What wheels are you getting? :)

If you are looking for more power it might be worth waiting for JMS to release their new performance intake manifold.

Hi Mate

Im not sure im that bothered about power because with clios you seem to have to throw £1000s at them for not a lot of gain + its the lardy one so im more looking to better the handling so i can enjoy a few track days. I would defo go for a yozzasport this time mind you ..... Money isnt really a problem as ill just buy bits and bobs each month ....

I had a remap / Miltek with decat / airfilter on my last clio and it made 182 BHP so im a little optamistic about throwing money at the engine :p

Oh and im unsure on the wheel front, i dont think ill buy brand new (will just have to wait for something decent to come up on the bay or cliosport) any suggestions ? they dont need to look pretty just hold some decent rubber ;)
