Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Oh and im unsure on the wheel front, i dont think ill buy brand new (will just have to wait for something decent to come up on the bay or cliosport) any suggestions ? they dont need to look pretty just hold some decent rubber ;)

if you're going for 15's just get some Turini's. There isn't a wheel that fits those cars that looks as good and weighs as little.

Thought so will have a look at getting some used ones ideally allready wrapped in some sticky tyres ...

Why another clio Sam?

I don’t really know :p

I think for the money the clio is a very hard package to beat (in terms of fun / cheap to run / speed / age etc) I really missed my Clio and fancied another one. I’m going to keep this for a while now, complete a few choice mods and see if i can rack up my track days ;)

All my mates have quicker cars , 360 bhp pulsar / R32 Golf / 350Z / Focus RS just to name a few and although i miss the straight line speed and perhaps the noise i find the clio is just as much fun for far far less money ...

I also feel like my expectations keep going up and are now beyond what i can realistically afford. The next car on my want list is either an M3 CSL or a Audi RS4 but both of them would be pushing me to financial destruction and let’s be honest it’s simply not worth it ... What’s the point of having your dream car if you can’t run it / track it etc.....

This is just a temporary step back ;)

Fair enough, was intrigued as it seems a step back from the vx and the scoob.

But as you say fun to cash ratio they are pretty win.

For wheels I'd go for 15 inch OZ Ultra leggeras, will struggle to find anything lighter that cheap. Turinis are not as light as people think.

I'd also try and plump for some nice coilovers, bilstein B14 (I think that's the model no) or H+R come highly recommended.

Then if you want to up the power you're looking at about £2200 for some DTH throttle bodies with the new Gen90 ecu from KTec (approx 200bhp without new cams), about £3500 for a low boost turbo (210-230bhp), or roughly £4000 for a 'low boost' supercharger conversion (up to 250bhp I think).

All of those obviously improve things throughout the range as well, and significantly improve the torque, I think :p

My current car comes up for MOT in June (1996 1.3 Fiesta) which I have had since passing my test when I was 17, I know it is going to fail as it had a lot of warnings last time and I haven't gotten any of them addressed. I have almost made up my mind that I will get a Clio 172/182, most likely a 172, I should have around 3-4k to spend so hopefully will find a nice example, though I have a few questions that I hope people can help me out with.

my trusty fiesta was brought from the car auctions for a mere £1400 and has been so reliable it is untrue, I have covered 30k in 7 years however I tend now to only do less than 3k a year. Will these cars be as reliable? I know its hard to answer as I am sure each car is different.

Also as the servicing costs reasonable? I think the tax is the same as my current fiesta £110 a year so that shouldn't be an issue.

Do you think this is a good choice given I have 3-4k or is there something better out there? I only tend to use my car at the weekends and once in the weekday so I would like something quite fun and nice to drive.

Well I think insurance will be an extra £300 I don't do a lot of miles currently I'm not even sure what my Fiesta gets MPG wise but I don't think it will be as good as a 172, it more comes down to servicing, tyres etc. I have a very good job and I can easily put £1k aside a year for running costs, but I would prefer it to be cheaper than that.

I did also consider another Fiesta but I cannot really afford the Zetec-S I would want and I definitely cannot afford the ST. As I say I cycle everywhere and hardly use my car however I am in a position now where I want something quite fun and I can afford to run it, I was just thinking a 172 would be a good choice.

ive had mine just over a year, its been brilliant, done a service myself so i cant comment on that, but only thing i changed was tyres due to the fact that the previous owner had 3 different sets on and the tracking was out :/ other than that, i cant recall chngeing the break pads/discs yet!

how old are you ? if u dont mind me asking, it will give us an idea on insurance :)

I'm 24 at the moment but I will be 25 in July and I am contemplating waiting until I turn 25 before I buy the new car that way I should save some money. I'm sure I can deal without a car for a month.

Anyone want to sell me there 182 yozza / miltek exhaust / some 15' wheels with semi slicks :p

25 shouldnt be much of a problem, i would deffinatly wait till your 25 THEN see how much insurance would be for you, use the usual sites, moneysupermarket, go compare etc and also use sites like Sky Insurance, Green Light, performance Direct and also say to them what if you join an owners club what would the cost be there, becase they do discounts too, im with Sky Insutance and mine is cheap :)

good luck
