Who here owns a Renaultsport?

I didn't passenger you today, but I know from before you brake very hard & sudden (which does the job certainly :p), but maybe need to make it a bit more progressive?

Pff, if its not standing on its nose your not trying hard enough :p

The odd thing about this is that they don't appear to have warped when they got hot, but rather when they cooled down. Could they be building up a patch of material when cooling next to the pads or something?

Brembo HCs are only £30, but it soon builds up if I'm having to replace them all the time. If I replace these it will be my 4th set of discs from 5 track days :(

£30 disks?! Wish mine were that cheap... £115 for my Brembos :(

Thanks for the ride today, car going well! And I agree with Duke about your hard+sudden braking!

Could have been worse though. Today I've seen exactly what happens when a Clio gearbox let's go at 100mph! The bottom of the gearbox was completely ripped off and the guy was pulling chunks of gearbox housing and clutch bits out of the engine bay!!
Didn't look too good did it...

(Also going a bit OT, but how's the caliper on the S2000, still ok?)

The S2000 caliper seemed fine for the rest of the day after borrowing your mates tools. Cheers for that.

He was letting the Clio past at the end of the day when it blew. Apparently he was bouncing off the limiter when it went.

I actually think I'm quite light on my brakes compared to what they are capable of. But I have got quite a bit of pedal travel as the fluid needs changing which means there's a lot of nothing and then suddenly a bite. It still shouldn't be enough to warp a set of disks after just 2 track days though :(.

Try some other pads. What are you using now. Could be material build up like you say. Did you have a nice long cool down before parking up?

Ds2500 have a habit of causing judder with bremtech disks

I've warped 2 sets of disks. A set of stock Renault disks using Ferodo Performance pads, and this set of Brembo HCs with Ferodo DS2500s. Id rather not have to change pads, these are only 2 track days old and were £140.

I'm willing to try some other disks though seen as these are borked and if there are issues with pad build up.

I try and do a whole lap with no braking before coming in.

Try pagid standards as an option, Danny at 519 (on cliosport) raves about standard pagid stuff, to the point he recommends their standard pads and discs even for track days.

Might be worth a go?

Other option is to have the discs skimmed if they're that new. Decent engineering firm should be able to do it. I'm lucky, if it ever comes to it I can do mine at work.

I'm having a few funny cornering moments recently, bump steer being a bit of an issue, but not just on harsh bumps. The steering also seems -very- light at higher speeds so beginning to wonder whether I have some worn suspension parts/steering parts. Also a bit vague sometimes.

Ring any bells for anyone?

I really need to make some rear exhaust mounts up, my Miltek will just not sit properly even with sockets in and it vibrates off the rear surround on the bumper sometimes :(

Yeah the pads are good (too good :p), so prob best to try new discs.

Good to see you again nicRob btw :)

Tempted to just bang on another set of Brembo discs and risk it. I don't fancy dumping a few hundred on new disks and pads and fluid and then still have the same problem.

i use brembo discs and have used ds2500's and cl6 race pads on the discs too and never warped a set. have you checked the calipers to see if there actually working properly? sounds like its just holding onto the disc and over heating them :/

I try and do a whole lap without braking to cool off.

It does seem more like a sticking caliper causing build up when stationary, but I've not noticed any of the symptoms of a stuck caliper. It could be a new thing though and only started sticking yesterday, and just enough to cause a vibration rather than the smoke and super heated 1 wheel like a full on caliper does (a mate had this exact issue on his S2000 yesterday).

i think my calipers are on the verge of needing a refresh.. just tried breaking from 80 - 0 and it went on and on and on... kinda thought it might get to that point eventually seeing they havent had a refresh in over 100k lmao

Is refreshing calipers an easy job? I've been advised to do that from cliosport and got details on a kit, but have no idea what it involves.

IIRC you need a specilist caliper tool for the spring? Other than that it's not too much of a tricky job from what I've heard. I wouldn't be doing it myself mind.

Mines going off the road for the winter and basically having everything refreshed but got an engineer i always use for all my car work now. When it comes to brakes im not playing with that myself! I think places like gsf and co do them on an exchange basis?

2 new V12s fitted today for a grand total of £24. Can't complain, took them 2 hours though and they left a load of white grease/glue on the tyres! Needs a good wash tomorrow now!

Even with an exchange they are almost £100.
