Who here owns a Renaultsport?

I'm really no mechanic, so don't take anything i say as true, but it might be worth checking them!

If you try and move the top inlet manifold does the RPM raise/drop? It could also be an idle control valve problem which regulates how much air gets into the engine. Throttle cable could be damaged. Thats all i can think of atm :)

thanks buddy

well, no idea im not a mechanic either so no idea what's what really under the hood

but I went out today (just into the next village/town) and idling fine

Looks epic, if my requirements for a car hadn't changed I'd be all over one of them in the same colour next! Looks awesome :)

Umming and arrring at the moment over a 250/265.

Keep going round in circles about the 182 being perfectly adequate now. Would extend the mortgage (have a low LTV) and could save and clear the increase within about 2 years. Would cost around £70 more per month for the duration.

Anyone here moved up to a 250/265, would be interested to hear your experience and also any differences for consumables/servicing etc and ofc extra potential from tuning.

Technically the cambelt should have been replaced twice already due to the age of the car. 5 years OR 72K whichever comes first.

Check AUX belt has been done. Dephaser/Water pump done at all? These 2 aren't necessary but its a nice to have.

Those alloys make me think it is a bog basic MK2 172 non Cup. Worth asking and checking. That is strongish money for that spec of car I think.

If you want a bigger selection and you are serious about getting a 172/182 join cliosport.net and check out the cars for sale. You would definitely get a better idea of what you can get for your budget.

Thanks for the info guys.

He replied and said he was told the cambelt had been done at 68k when he bought it, no paperwork or receipts though. Lost interest after that.

I'm not set on getting a 172/182, I just like the look, heard they are nice handling nippy little cars. I just sold my Cupra so have the urge to get something else around the 160-190BHP range.

The chances of it being a freak one off is pretty slim mate, i would certainly look at the ICV. Try cleaning it, or for the sake of £15, replace it.

Idle Control Valve was what my brother thinks it probably is
so far, its still ok, if it happens again, ill call my brother and he'll sort it

Posting this in here as my thread got closed:

I'm thinking of picking one of these up in a couple of months as I'm after something fun and nippy for the weekends. Is there anything I should look out for when buying one? I have a friend who's right into his Renault Sports who should be able to point me in the right direction but a little help from some motoring nuts on here wouldn't go a miss. Open to suggestions for alternative cars as well

Depends on your budget, but the ideal spec for a 200 is cup packed, Recaros and black speedline alloys. I'm not overly fussed about those when I was looking at 200s, but Recaros are a must. Easy to get one for under £10k now, and worth checking that the gearbox is ok when test driving - any clunking between 3rd and 4th needs to be sorted under warranty (providing the car still has it).
There's a good buying guide somewhere on Clio197.net I think.

Brilliant, engine management light is on again and kangoring all over the place (more than usual) and dropping power!

Just had it fully serviced, all faults cleared and been running fine for the past 3-6months and back again. Though I've probably done less than 3000miles in that time, if that so possibly still the same fault.

Possibly a sensor? At a loss, may need to go to a garage :(
