Who here owns a Renaultsport?

With a £4k budget, you're looking at a high mileage/ragged 182 or a lovely 172. Perhaps save another £1000 and £5k will get you a great example :)

The problem is £5k is closer to Mini Cooper S territory and that's something I've always wanted, bar the fact at uni, 99% of the time, anyone driving a mini is a spoilt brat/daddy's girl - don't like that image.

I'm having a look on Pistonheads at the moment. Which models have the twin exhausts at the back? I'm not buying a car with a 2.0 litre engine that climbs to 62mph in 7 seconds that could also pass as a bog standard 1.2.

I'll also sign up to Cliosport and have a look around.

Cheers :)

The twin exhausts are the 182s mate

What would be wrong with something like this?

http://pistonheads.com/sales/1860372.htm

doesn't seem too bad if your prepared to get the broken stuff fixed/replaced.

for me, it was the cost factor that made me buy a 172, for a decent 182 i would be paying an extra £2k for +10bhp/0.1secs off 0-60 (Parkers spec) in my eyes this wasnt worth it

so got me a minty mint 172.

i would suggest you try have a spin in both 172 and 182 and make your mind up :) stunning fun cars though!

Will do mate, still just looking at the moment could change my mind. Just want to make sure there aren't too many horror stories with these cars. I don't want to blow everything I've saved up for something in the future on keeping it in good nick! Is there anyway to get the 182 exhaust system on the 172? I completely agree with you, it does seem crazy to spend all the extra cash on the sake of 10bhp. I doubt I'll put much money into modifying it either as I'd only be keeping it for about a year - although something tells me if I did buy one it would be extremely difficult to let it go :D

Also is it difficult to find them with the Recaro seats. A mate has them in his type-R and they are awesome.

Cheers

main thing is the cambelt and aux needs to be changed 72K or 5 years, this is a £500 job so what ever clio sport you get make sure this has been done with proof like receipt or stamp in service book.

not sure ive seen a 172 with a 182 exhaust, unless you get one custom built

with mods: brakes, wheels, air filters, suspension -springs or coilovers, decat/exhaust

its never ending hehe :) but all good fun!

if your anywhere near Manchester, id be happy to take you out for a spin :)

Very very few had Recaros, they were an option on later models and came as standard on the Trophy.

So the Trophy is essentially the ultimate model?

Another issue for me is I will be driving from London to Newcastle and back over 10 times in the next year. Are these cars ok on the motorway? I'm not too fussed about noise as I tend to cruise with the music on but I don't want a horrific experience. One of my mates had an Elise and he absolutely dreaded the drive to and from uni (same as mine).

I find long motorway drives in my 182 ok. It's where having the 182 is a good thing, means you get climate and cruise which is nice on long journeys.

Once you're over 5.5k they feel pretty quick I think. It's not gutless low down but it is a pretty frantic engine. It all depends on what you are used to really.

Road tax for a Cooper S will be higher, however insurance being a group lower should be slightly cheaper. Then you have things like economy - parkers shows it to be more or less the same as the 1*2 but having never driven or owned one I can't comment. I would think superchargers make it rather thirsty?

Parts too for maintenance I imagine to be higher, if it has bigger wheels tyres will be more expensive and so on.

Can deffinatley confirm the kick at 5k rpm deffinatley feel shed loads more torque.

I was reading the InGear part of The Sunday Times last weekend, someone had written in regarding a small hot hatch. The Cooper S was a suggestion and the author said that it was capable of 48mpg - 'can that really be true?' was my thought!

maybe on the newer turbo version but the old supercharged one was pretty thirsty for a 1.6

Hey guys, my drivers side xenon bulb seems to have broken and I am completely confused how to go about sorting it, I've had a browse of the Cliosport forum for help but I only end up reading things and then getting more and more frustrated :(

All this talk of ballasts and fuses blowing when testing other bulbs has confused me so I'm wondering what the hell to do now, I have no idea what type of bulbs I need other than them being D2S or if there is something wrong with the ballast? (whatever they are :s)

Are these bulbs suitable replacements? :s

http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/hid-xenon-bulbs/d2s-hid-xenon-replacement-bulbs-p-447.html

Can any of you lovely people help me? :)

****Nevermind, had the front bumber off and it turns out a wire had come of the ballast :p all working and good to go again :)****
