Who here owns a Renaultsport?

£4k should get you a mint mk2 ph2 172. Prob around 03 reg.

You need to make sure its had a recent cambelt/aux belt change (with proof from a recognised specialist ideally) as otherwise its a £500 job....either that or haggle the money off to get it done yourself.

When turning slowly on full lock you will more than likely hear a knocking noise. This is common on all 172's and is nothing to worry about.

Just look for a tidy one in good conditon, there is a lot of battered and abused examples out there that have been thrashed like hell and not properly maintained.

Who was that quote with billybob89?

Thats was with Admiral multi car poilcy. Which had on:

Clio 172 -Me (In my name) + mum £750

1998 mini cooper - Me (In me name) + bro (17 today) and mum £850 (All shared users)

Audi a3 1.6tdi (Mum) + plus me £400

Not bad at all i dont think :)

For the audi they only wanted another £200 for me to join the policy, and bro is willing to pay for the mini insurance as i gave him good deal on the car.

S for about 4k i can expect the cambelt and aux belt and the tensioner been done. It has quality 4 tyres and exhaust back box done, and all the paper work?

Privilege used to give me good quotes and was with them for a few years on the 172. Then just before selling I switched to Admiral who absolutely massacred every other quote I had.

I'm getting quotes at ~ £700, i'm 27 with 2ncb with a claim against me earlier on in the year.

Paid £500 last year:(

Looks like prices have gone up quite a bit in the last few months, I paid about £240 at 28, and £200 at 29 this year.

Also anyone got a guide for fitting the rear brakes? The ones with the built in abs rings and bearings?

There are some very good guides for fitting & bleeding brakes on cliosport.net.

I've used guides for fitting braided lines, front discs, front pads, rear pads, bleeding, removing door cards, fitting 16.5cm speakers and will be using them for fixing front washer jets and also removing the dashboard.

There's 8 pages of guides, well worth the £10.

Mo' is booked in for his remap at K-tec :D and also an exhaust adjustment, free of charge, thank you very much K-tec :)

Looking foward to it as for some reason I've been detesting it's lack of power sub 2.5k revs! This may be due to the exhaust not being properly sealed after the cat however it was still noticable before!

Will post up the before & after readouts in a months time :(

Been very tempted by the JMS RS2 intake manifold but just don't have £1800 to throw away!

I was up at JMS yesterday. Both Tom and James have the RS2 intake manifold, it looks pretty awesome when fitted.

They couldn't fix my knocking noise on acceleration. I'm so annoyed by it :( It's ruining the car at the moment.

Bit of a thread bump because I FINALLY got the knocking/rattle that I had on acceleration for 3 months sorted! The car feels so much more solid now because when I put my foot down it sounds as it should. I am SO HAPPY :D :D :D

Also, I yanked out one of the CAFs going into the airbox to give it a nice subtle induction noise. Sounds awesome and no noticeable loss in power. Takes 5 seconds to connect it up again if I need to. Love the noise though with it out :)

I have some proper RenaultSport mats on their way and also an RSTuner so I can add a different map to it, which will increase the rev limit, should increase MPG, and generally give the car a bit more power lower in the rev range (hopefully).

So what was the knock/rattle then?

I don't know exactly, but they said they adjust some of the heatshield around the manifold, they also adjusted the upper engine mount and the nearside lower engine mount (I think), and also replaced a bracket which was missing on the airbox. It could be one, a combination of, or all of those things. Either way, it's gone and I am ridiculously happy :)

Where are you getting the mats ? I think my 182 has developed a similar rattle to yours which is getting quite annoying. Generally getting a bit fed up with the car now.
