Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Personally for rear discs I'd stick with Renault ones, pads is up to you.

The discs used to be £160ish on their own but within the last year they were dropped to £90ish.

Firstly thanks to Maccy for being an extra set of hands today when we fitted some new standard rear pads, braided lines, Brembo HC Front discs and DS2500 front pads. Followed by a bleed.

Took us quite some time as we managed to mis-read a section of an online guide telling us to wind in the rear caliper piston which was stoping the pads fitting correctly/at all! And some very stiff bolts holding the carrier onto the hub. About 45 minutes of swearing, WD40, banging and generally giving those nuts what for they gave in and came out :D

Ends of the DS2500's did need filling slightly and the shims removing from the carrier to allow a bit of play/movement to stop squealing and allow for expansion. This set up kicks out some serious heat when they're warm!

Massive massive improvement, taking about 3 seconds to come to a stop from 80mph and is just generally incredible at killing your speed.

Both of ours first time and doing anything brake related. Set aside a day, make sure you've a decent socket set and a decent range of spaners, torx bits, mole grips and a bleed kit and it's a simple enough job, oh and a hammer:p. Be prepared to get dripped on when fitting the lines too! I ended up with a lap full of brake fluid as I pressed a caliper piston in with the socket for the line pointing right at my crown jewels  Maccy found it funny, personally I didn't!

Rear lines were a total PITA to fit on axle stands, could have done with a pit!

Anyway a few pics:

Money well spent!

Having some possible alternator issues as I needed a jump to start after for some reason. And had a very laboured start after that. Have been having the same problem every so often, sounding like it almost won't turn over. Possibly starter motor related?

I found the lines made a pretty good difference when I fitted them.

The brakes on these things are great as standard anyway :)

Benny, if you don't mind me asking how much did all of that cost you?

I have FINALLY ordered my new exhaust after driving around with the standard one for around 2 months with the baffles in the centre section gone. The rattles are SO annoying now.

I've bought a Milltek cat-back which is being fitted on Saturday :)

Next on the list of things to do is to remove the window tints!

Has a nice feel to the pedal now as opposed to traveling forever before anything happens!

Brembo HC's were £45 delivered from bremboshop.
DS2500's, Braided Lines, Standard Rear Pads(motorio? I think?), 1Ltr 5.1 Fluid, Easybleed Kit = £252 delivered from 'Fred' @ BTM. No idea of the individual components I'm affraid.

So just shy of £300 in all. Standard rear discs are £100 with bearings & ABS rings. Not worth upgrading as they literally do nothing. I could still spin the rear wheels (with a bit of effort) with the brakes on. So just leave them be and save your cash!

Will also need the relvant tools: axle stands, jack, spaners, socket set, copper grease, brake cleaner, disposable glove, mole grips, WD40 etc.

Awesome

Think my exhaust is good for a little while longer, will wait till it falls apart to replace. I really like the stock sound. Deffinatley want to hear a few different systems in the fresh before I buy one. Yozzasport one is supposed to be the boobies!

K-tec custom remap is next I think!

My k-tec is real droney at 3.5k rpm +

:(

Which K-tec do you have?

I've heard good things about the Yozza but sounds very loud and quite 'farty' to me. I'd like something a bit deeper.

From what I've seen on youtube the Ktec/Janspeed with supersports cat sounds ideal:

Try looking at the RS192 exhaust it has a nice sound to it and is not meant to be droney at motorway speeds.

Looks like I have some research to do!

Noticed a slight bit of squeal when pulling up and stopping at slow speeds, not a massive amount but enough to annoy me. So took the pads out and filed them down a bit more and now it's worse! Do'h! A bit intermitent also get some at around 30-40mph. I think it's more to do with the pedal position if anything?

Going to have them out again tomorrow and have a fiddle with them, make sure they're sat correctly and also maybe swap them over as they might have swapped sides when I took them out to file.

Also would anybody else know if the caliper piston needs pushing back in before re-fitting the caliper? Not sure if it'll make any difference, seem to still work brilliantly, just squeal like a ***** sometimes! And yes they we're deffinatley warm before anyone asks!

Benny make sure you brake the pads and discs in correctly, otherwise they will warp.

also according to Fred @ BTM, as the ds2500 are race pads they will squeal, theres nothing you can do apart from file the ends and remove the shims (which you have done)

there should be 1-2mm gap top and bottom of the pads/carrier when files down.

As said DS2500s do squeal so I'd be expecting it tbh.

Poor Tim, have you got any of the good parts on your 182? Apex springs, dodgy exhaust, not a PE2 in sight... :p

My 182 is due its cambelt service, its only done 34k but its 6 years old now. Renault quoted me 280 quid for the service plus 680 for the cambelt kit. (so no change from 1k!! ouch!) Needless to say I have sourced the kit from ktec at rather a big saving. But my discs and pads are also shot, so I have gone for the brembo HC setup but with the carbon lorraine pads again from ktec. Renault standard front discs and pads were £250 without labour, these were 150 so quite a big saving over the stock parts....

I'm also going for the ktec exhaust as mine is likely going to fall off shortly. Will report back as to the quality of the brakes and exhaust.... but i'm expecting quite a difference in both stopping power and exhaust note! Next things to do are fix the rattles (suspecting engine mounts but i'm waiting till the exhaust is changed to rule that out) and sort out the paintwork. Oh and occasionally it need a few tries to start not sure what that's about. Been OK for the past month or so though. Bad starter motor contact perhaps? Plugs? anyone else had this?

Had them out today as I think I could spot where one end was making contact with the carrier so gave them all a little bit more of a filing and will report back later!

My Milltek arrived Friday and fitted it this morning. It's a total *****! to get it to sit right/straight currently the left (when stood looking at the rear) is pointing to the right slightly, touching the surround and causing the whole back bumper to vibrate  It is also sitting far to low without my wedges currently made from 4 nuts super glued together!

Even with brand new mounts and wedges! If I have time tomorrow evening I think we'll dis-assemble and start again!
