Who here owns a Renaultsport?

That Yozzasport exhaust sounds sweet :) I still wonder if I should have had one of these instead of my Golf lol.

BennyC, did you ever get that Alpine plug and play amp?

Out of interest, what are the younger drivers here paying for insurance on a 182? And how are you finding the running costs?

21 y.o
4 years NCB
Adrian Flux (Marker Study) Basic premium was £900.

Then I had a few extras put on like key cover, increased legal protection etc plus admin fee's and it was £1070. Then They asked for a milage declaration form and I then decided to be honnest as I was no longer doing my Uni milage (which was sub 3000 per year). And they matched a Tesco Value insurance quote of a further £171 to cover me for 8000 miles. I never did have to return a milage declarion/recorded milage form back :( Though I did note it on the V5 when I brought the car so they could check and it's always best to be honnest.

So my actual premium was £1240 odd. Not bad as my first years premium @ 17 with 0NCB on my 1.4 L reg corsa was £1471!

Running costs aren't too bad but I only have a 5 mile round trip to work each day and then a drive into town or to the cinema/mates at the weekend so I don't do very many miles. But on the motorway you'll see 36MPG + usually 42/43 when I go through the 50mph road works.

Half a tank gets me about 100 miles at the moment as I drive through residential roads to get to work which is all speed bumps and traffic calming measures so pritty much in 1st,2nd or 3rd till I read the main road for about 800 meters. And when I'm not driving it to work (at the weekends) I drive it pritty hard, don't mind paying for the pleasure though :)

I spent £300 upgrading the fronts to DS2500's, Brembo HC discs and new rear pads, plus new fluid and a bleed kit. Well worth the money and essential if you want to have some fun with the car as the standard brakes are ******* awful in comparison and quite possibly dangerous depending how you drive. These are like having a parachute burst out the back and elephant sit on the bonnet.

Tax was £235 back in July. £20 for 5 litres of oil as I needed a small top up. Other than cleaning accesories and some **** matts to use for the winter that's been it so far.

Though when turning over sometimes it doesn't inspire confidence so there might be something that needs replacing (spark plugs, starter motor).

Rears need replacing which can be anything from £60-110 per courner.

Just reminded me I haven't yet mate. I've got my remap this weekend and was higher up on the list of things I wanted :)

I'm not sure if I still will but if I do I'll be sure to give you my thoughts on it.

Is anyone else here running on OEM shocks and Eibach Sportlines?

My Sportlines went on about 2 months ago and I'm sure the ride has become much more firm since then. It almost feels too firm, like something might be broken. If I go over a pothole it really doesn't sound healthy, but I have nothing else to compare to.

When the Sportlines were fitted the guy said the from shocks might be on their way out as he though they were leaking slightly, but he wasn't 100% sure.

The car also feels a bit unsteady at speed on uneven surfaces. It always has to a degree, but just feels a bit more unsteady recently.

Mine was being a total **** this morning.

About 4 weeks after buying the car I had a sub & amp installed which killed the battery. SO I had a new battery fitted and removed the sub & amp. Ever since when turning over it's never 'sprung' into life like it did when I first had it, it's not struggled but not inspired confidence. Though sometimes it has struggled and 20 minutes with the doors open when washing the car and the battery is dead.

This morning I had signs of life but no turn over. I usually turn the ignition on wait for the lights to disappear and then turn over. I did want to wake my mother up to ask for a jump start so like always hooked my battery charger up and waited a few minutes. Twice I tried waiting for the lights to go out before starting and no luck. Third time I tried without waiting and it sprung into life.

Now its bloody annoying! I have short journeys to work during the week but will usually have a longer journery once or twice during the week to the pub and back and at weekends it'll get a longer run too.

Whenever it's going to sruggle to start or fail to start after turning the ignition on I can hear this 'clicking' and 'juddering' from behind the dashboard, more specifically on the driverside. I don't know what this is or if it has anything to do with it. I'm annoyed that a 4 month old battery is giving up the ghost so easily so think it might be alternator related?

It is an 063 battery for the record. God knows why Renault decided to give it such a small battery.

Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this?

My Clio woes continued last night.

I received my lovely arctic blue cup spoiler yesterday. Having read numerous threads about it taking 10 mins to fit I set to work on fitting it even though it was getting dark out.

2 hours later, and the bloody thing was finally attached to my car. However, not only does it sit badly (massive gap between windscreen and spoiler, which also shows at the sides), but the brake light doesn't work.

I then read that the connections on the cup spoiler for the brake light aren't very good, and that I should remove the brake light and give them a clean. I tried this, and I snapped the brake light.

Oh, and the washer jet hose is too short and doesn't reach the actual jet thing on the spoiler.

So, I now have to buy a new brake light, work out some way of actually fitting the thing properly (perhaps cutting the brake light wires and just taping them together with electrical tape to remove the big chunky Renault connector thing), and also find some way of getting the washer jet hose to reach.

I had about 2 weeks of the car running great, now this, on top of the dodgy feeling that the car is out of control at anything about 50mph on bumpy surfaces. Hurrah!

How can you enjoy owning this?

I sometimes ask myself the same question. I guess because it is actually very fun to drive, and I spent the last 8 years in a faded red 1997 Vauxhall Corsa.

Snap. Except mine ws blue and 1993 reg :D

When they work properly they're bags of fun. When they don't they're a massive PITA. Also because there's nothing else available that can deliver the same amount of fun/performance for sub £6k so you might as well put up with it!

Should have some videos/snaps of the remap for anyone thats interested. Will be able to rev upto 7500RPM :)

Had the RAC out today to sort out the 'duff' battery they had given me back in June. Turns out it was only holding/putting out 200 'EN', think he meant Amps? It was putting out 12v and then 14.4 when running but was laboured when turning the engine over.

New one in and it jumps into life :) instead of sounding like a tractor!

Remap went well at K-tec today. With a gain of just over 8bhp and about 5lb of torque.

It made 156.4 before and then 164.9 after. Lower than I was expecting as a friend of a friends 182 made 162 before and 173 after. The reason for getting it wasn't to do with the 'numbers' but more the transformation to the car and improved driveability which it deffinatly delivered :) He did however mention that readings can often vary and that on lots of different occasions his own car has made anything between 205bhp and 220bhp. So it may well an over estimate and it could well be an under-estimate, hope not! Will upload them print outs/videos tomorrow.

FAO: Scarey Squirell, I can't remember if your Milltek was sitting okay or not? I asked K-tec how they adjusted mine. Basically the hangers that the mounts screw into have a bit of give in and can be pushed to the side/up/down. So if you need to you can raise it a little by pushing them which ever way you need.

A snap of the hanger and mount.
Ignore my makeshift 'prop' of 4 nuts superglued together :p

They are very fun cars to drive if they are anything like the Mk1's. I think they are a love hate relationship. Love when right so we continue to change the to how we want them. But this makes things go wrong all the time! The amount of times I've had the engine out of mine was ridiculous!

It's ok if you have the space and time to work on them :D Luckily the parts for them are cheap!

Test drove a 200 yesterday, shouldn't have done it.

Are these much quicker than a 182?

There is a guy on Cliosport, his 182 was used in the Fifth Gear test between the two. Apparently.... the 182 was faster and the results fixed to show the 200 faster.

Was a while ago so don't quote me on that :p

That was my mates car. They left the script in his 182 lol! Indeed the 182 was quicker but they changed the result.

In my opinion, like all new hatches, the 200 is too big and heavy. I've done quite a few of the RenaultSport trackdays, and tbh the 200 is not particularly special from what I've seen, although it's not completely fair comparing it to my 182 as it's not standard at all!
