Who here owns a Subaru?

Any recommendations on front brake pads for an 02 WRX?

Currently got Yellowstuff which work well but are very dusty. Also considering most of my milage is motorway, they don't seem to have lasted that well.

Not really too sure what I should be looking for... years ago DS2500 and M1155 were the pads of choice. I gather this has changed since then?

Urgh yellow stuff.. probably made of butter. :D :p

Try Pagid. as an all rounder (not the race stuff unless you are doing trackdays then go for black or blue depending on taste) Race ones are not cheap though...
Outside of that DS2500 are pretty well rated still but they are dusty as hell too mind.

Pagid are useless....

I'm currently on yellow stuff myself, although a lot of spirited driving.

When I had Pagid on mine when i first purchased it the thing wouldn't stop lol

Anways....Looking for a new Exaust as my old custom one has now got a nice hole in it and I can hear it leaking from the side when i get out out have the windows down.

Any suggestions? Always wanted an Invidia one but they are so expensive and a long wait to get sent over

I'm a huge fan of Hayward & Scott. I had to get mine fixed under warranty a few months ago, which they did on a one-day turnaround, without and question. Even though the crack was caused by a broken mount point on the car, and thus nothing really to do with them. But a full system with a sports cat is about a grand. You can buy individual sections though.

As for brakes, I'm currently on Performance Friction, which are OK, Before that I had Mintex 1155s, which worked brilliantly but squealed if you weren't aggressive enough, and threw off more dust than a soot factory. They seemed to have changed all the part numbers since I got rid of them though.

Does it actually have a hole or is a gasket gone?

If it does have a hole then depends what section needs replacing?

Yeah, it's a decent size hole. I noticed it when I had my new clutch in but it's only gotten bigger since. I've been holding off due to the fact a friend was going to give me his system but thus sold the car with it :p

It's the section just after the cat, I know for a fact it's throwing my Fueling out of whack too as I keep getting O2 sensor codes every now and again on a new sensor.

I don't drive her that often so it's not much of an issue but with the nicer weather I'd want it all done before the summer

There's a few "custom" places near me, one is powerflow which I'm gonna avoid and another is one that deals with a lot of kit car projects and is highly recomeded, just don't wanna pay through the roof if its in the same range as the Invidia i'd rather get that as it's what I want but cost is a factor

I had a Hayward and Scott cat-back exhaust on my classic Impreza and blobeye sti, by far the best exhausts I fitted to either car (I also had a Blitz and HKS system on my classic). Great build quality and a great sound under WOT without the boomy noise on the motorway I got with the Blitz/HKS.

Mine going in next monday for some welding, new air con rad, new rear calipers, top mounts all round, trailing arm bushes. *_* goodbye monies

Changed standard wrx headlights to uk sti lights, bloody things were less effective than the original so bought a hid kit last week. Muuuuch better now!
Cut offs are pretty good too.

What's the standard headlight configuration for a UK STi, projectors with halogens?

I've got Philips WhiteVision H4s in my standard bugeye lights which are ok... an upgrade from whatever was in there before. I'm trying not to go HID in reflectors though.

I had HIDs in my Rover which were great and had a good beam pattern but the Rover used a glass lens instead of the plastic reflector and a clear lens like the Scoob.

I would love love love a bug STi now that I've had mine for a bit. I always preferred the looks of the blob but now I'm not so sure. Doubt I'll get the opportunity to own a good one any time soon, and by the time I do they'll all be old and knackered.

Standard UK Sti is halogen H1 projectors yea.
I went from standard uk wrx to them and the light output (even with rally 100w-ers) was worse so I had to go down the HID route or splash on JDM units which are basically the same.

looking at getting a subaru this year. Always loved them since i was young and with a job change where it can now be feasible i am looking.

whats the best model to look for? are there any variants to steer clear of? This will be my commuting car (14 miles each way) so needs to be reliable.

budget wise I'm going on a absolute maximum of 6k but Ideally want it less than that but I'm not that clued up on how much i would need to spend for the right model. so I am looking at you lot to help me

Ps if u get a 2006 onwards u will be stung with the big tax from our lovely government bless them something like 500 sheets a year ;)

Should be able to get a good '05 WRX for 5.5k.

I've heard the '06 2.5 engines like to let go, so something to keep in mind.

Im desperate to get another Impreza once I get a house sorted, im going to live off bread and water if I have to, to scrape enough for a good STi.

I'd be looking at a late blobeye upto a 55 plate WRX if it's only going to see use on the road as you should get a really tidy car for that. If it were me however i'd probably be looking at a bugeye STi just to get all the extra goodies you get with the STi like brembo brakes etc.

I'd say any newage car with a 2.0 engine is going to be a winner as long as it's not completely thrashed/falling to bits.
