Who here owns a Subaru?

Anyone have any thoughts on the legacy 3.0 spec b?

I really liked the one I drove. Far from sporty mind you, but quick enough. Nice noise, nice looks, nice interior, nice gearbox. Great car :)

Really want a rare spoiler but hardly coming by any. One on the bay says it's silver but it actually looks gray. Then there is a carbon fibre one, looks so nice yet can't justify the costs! Ahh.

Springs... :)

Managed to fit the rear ARB and drop links tonight.

First impressions.. I went out in the wet to get some fuel. Some very small and tight roundabouts where it would normally want to understeer, it just didn't. Very impressed so far, can't wait to have a proper go :)

I love this video, I must watch it once a week. Once I sell my current car, I want a 2005 STI too, that sounds just like this. Awesome.

ScoobyDoo69, is this you or an imposter?

That is most definitely me! That's when I went last March. Am going again on the 13th July :)

Seriosuly love the vid mate. The shots with you coming straight towards the camera, then slinging it round the corner and accelerating out are incredible.

How do you find the Blitz day to day, did it annoy the neighbours? :D Will definitely be in touch with you once I get one of my own to get some advice on how to get the sound you had from yours as well as the look.

Make sure you get some more vids in July! :p

Curborough is a funny little sprint track, you only really get to third gear and no more, great watching the smaller higher power cars round it. I was over back around 2001/02 in my old 16v and it loved it. Bruntingthorpe and Alconbury were more fun though.

Sooooo much want when I hear a scooby that sounds like yours Kosta! I seem to live in an area with lots of Imprezas with loud exhaust, mostly older ones, so I frequently get reminded how good they can sound :D

Really want to take my Fiesta around Curborough at some point though, think it'd be a riot, 200bhp, small car with loads of suspension mods and LSD :D

Hey guys, Urgent problem!

In Paris right now and have had the car on a recovery truck delivered to my hotel, basically this is what happened. The exhaust sounded like it was blowing, as if there was a leak somewhere, whenever pressing the accellerator it would blow, an hour later it just became massively loud as if it's not even connected to the manifold.

Sound is coming from the front and underneath the car I can see what looks like heat shield fabric hanging from the bottom and it looks all torn up.

Any ideas? Gonna see a mechanic tomorrow but I'm hoping that the up pipe or something has just come loose, easy fix or will it require components to be taken off?

Broken headers? Or the downpipe has broken away from them? The headers are VERY close to the heat shield, so if the downpipe comes away it will flap into the shield and damage it. But you need to get under it and get the heatshield off to see what is happening. Don't worry about putting it back at the moment; lots of people run without it.

Edit: this is the headers and downpipe on an 02, so you can see that there's a few places it can break:

Is that a 22mm or 24mm arb?

I'd guess 22mm. You only need the 24mm for serious racing machines.

Urm.... :D It's a 24mm :D

Are we talking front underneath in front of the wheels or behind? If it's in front then you have an issue with the manifold or the up pipe. However you're saying heat shield "fabric" so I'm guessing your headers are either aftermarket and wrapped or just ported wrapped standard ones? Either that or the material in the heatshields has come out too..?

The manifold is a fairly easy on and off job. The up pipe (if still the standard one) can be a royal pain to wiggle out, and requires the removal of the downpipe to access the bolts, which requires the removal of the intercooler etc etc.

I hope it's the manifold :)

O and today's events summed up:

Car passed it's MOT with no advisories.. win!
Managed to fit my front coilovers with ease.. win!
Managed to forget to take the locking wheel nut off the wheel when taking it for a quick spin.. fail!
Had to walk around where I drove to find it about half a mile away from where I started, in the middle of the road.. fail!
Managed to fit my rear eibach camber bolts.. win!
Wasn't too sure about fitting them to the front and so left the off for now.

Off to get it a basic alignment tomorrow by A-Line in Dudley before finding time to take it to Powerstation to get it properly corner weighted etc.

:)

Right so here is the problem...

It's broken from its base, i've got a local mechanic to weld it back together so for the mean time it will do, back home i'll get a new part. Couple of questions, what is the part in question and also is there a particular reason it would fail? Engine management light is still on by the way...

Here is the fabric, this was no where near the where the pipe was broken so I don't know whether this is a different issue?

Urgh cheap aftermarket headers. They were heat wrapped which is the said heat material. You do not want to be running those on an STi if it's not mapped mate. Makes me wonder what other part of the exhaust has been replaced... With or without a map!

Is that the header that has snapped off? How can you tell they are aftermarket, they stated in the advert it had a full stainless steel system so obviously that is incorrect? I have emailed the dealership I bought it from, Graham Walker in Chester and see what can be done.

As for what else has been replaced, it has a Ninja 2 exhaust which I am not fond of so I want that replaced asap.

Yeah the head collector pipes. Very very common on the cheap ebay knock offs. Kinda their identity act lol.

If it has has a full stainless exhaust you need to check all over if it has any cats etc. If it's had any removed then you really need to be sure it's had a map. Given that it's had a stainless manifold, and other exhaust mods, I would really hope that it has been given a remap.

This is the full exhaust system on a WRX:

Please don't hotlink images and if a picture is larger than 1024 pixels wide either resize or link only. Thank you.

Only difference on the STi is that it has no cat in the up pipe as standard, and obviously no twin exhaust exits.

Go back to Graham Walker and get a few answers about the exhaust and remap, also I would think they'd want to sort the manifold for you too.

Cheers mate, figured out what i'm looking at now. When I bought it the sales guy Neil said that it had no sign of a remap, almost as if that was a good thing. Is it best to go for the standard STi headers? Why would have someone wanted to change the standard headers to cheaper aftermarket ones, what benefit does that offer because all I can gather so far is cheap build quality.

Would that explain why I was losing boost pressure and could hear a 'whining' noise above 3k revs? I'm guessing that the header was just gradually breaking away until it just snapped.
