Who here owns a Subaru?

Didn't think of the private plate thing, I did check all the popular subaru forums when I saw the plate was not showing as insured.

My plate was SL07 WYC. Good old SLOWY!

Just an update for anyone who's interested... raised a PayPal case against Aztec after speaking to other people on Scoobynet experiencing the same issue.

Aztec didn't reply and so the case was found in my favour. I won't be using Aztec again. Some people on SN were also doubting the authenticity of Aztec's Exedy clutches.

On a lighter note, changed the front pads on Sunday. Nice and straight forward, had to remove one of the front strut bolts to get to the top caliper bolt but all came apart in the end. Took the car out and did a few hard stops from 70 and now the pads are biting hard.

I know. Everything I've done on this car so far has been an absolute walk in the park and a joy to do. Even changing the spark plugs wasn't a bad job.

There's no way I was going to be defeated by a brake pad change.

Clutch and flywheel next. Quite looking forward to it. Going to get myself a transmission jack I think. I'm pretty small and weedy and could just about manage removing the gearbox on the Rover myself. I'm sure this one is quite a bit heavier.

Really surprised about Aztec... shame.

You and me both Kosta. I did some research beforehand and was generally pleased with what I'd read.

I was hoping to get my money back from Aztec and then battle on with this clutch until the weather got a bit better, but unfortunately, after a pretty epic launch the other day (I know, I know) and lots of clutch smell, it's got a *little* bit worse :o :D

Hoping it holds out until the end of the month when I can get some time off work to replace it.

I've been looking at the following... pending a reply from GGR before I order.

http://shop.grahamgoode.com/subaru-...0mm-5-speed-320bhp-newage-ggs1397-64587-p.asp

http://shop.grahamgoode.com/subaru-...ened-competition-flywheel-ggs0108-76598-p.asp

http://shop.grahamgoode.com/flywhee...-impreza-new-age-fits-all-ggs2063-64618-p.asp

Should all work together shouldn't they? Where/what is the spigot used for?

Anything else I'll need? Is it worth replacing the flywheel bolts as good practice? I'm guessing I'm going to have to remove the IC to get to the top of the gearbox so am going to replace the pitch stop mount as well. I had polybushed engine stabilisers on the Rover and liked how they felt... the pitch stop looks like a similar thing.

My mate replaced the clutch in his classic and reckoned it was a lot easier to take the engine out rather than try and do it from underneath, unless you've got a lift of course. I know that's the way i'll be doing it when/if i need to do mine.

Me and a few mates used to rent out a unit with a lift. Sure would have come in handy for this job.

Ordered the clutch and flywheel from GGR yesterday, it arrived this morning.

Glad you got it sorted, sorry I didn't see your reply sooner.

With my dad's we got the box out on his rather steep drive, then put the box back in using a hired ramp, put back in and driving within 1.5 hours. :)

I'm needing to get some new discs and pads soon... Just wondered where you guys would recommend getting parts from please? Scoobyworld? My current ones weren't bedded in properly and judder like crazy!

I'm only after OEM quality items, nothing special.

Cheers guys.

Can't help with discs but I bought some Brembo branded front pads from an eBay store recently to replace some very worn out Yellowstuffs.

I bedded them in pretty agressively and they're very good for the £30 I paid.

Obviously not going to take loads of abuse but they did a fair few hard stops from 70 to 20 before showing any signs of fade, all within about 5 miles of being fitted.

Cheers Kosta, so am I.

I'm looking forward to doing the clutch. It's not as though I don't know my way around an engine bay... it's just being slightly afraid of the unknown, hah.

Yeah, I need to get that done, but I've heard they're only doing a few a month..!

Recommendations for an OBD2 thingy for my 06 Hawk STI ? Where do they plug-in? Never used one before :)
Want to get Torque Pro running.

I use a cheapo Bluetooth ELM327 one off ebay. Not sure about the Hawk but it's under the steering column on the blob so we bought a 90 degree extension cable so we could tuck it away to reduce the risk of hitting it with your knees. The one in the mx5 sits with the ECU under a plate in the passenger footwear (Although I just use MSDroid to connect to the ECU directly in that as it updates faster and allows me to datalog)

I'm starting to realise what a fanboy I am!

I can't think of any other car that interests me enough to buy instead of a Subaru/Evo/GTR.

Sad really.. but when I look at other cars I think "too slow, crap sound, too heavy, not mod friendly, too expensive to maintain, blah blah"

Then I look at JDM turbo AWD cars and practically plan out my whole future with them!
