Who here owns a Subaru?

Glad you got your Ninja finally, Phil!

EddScott, it's a custom exhaust with valves for "quiet" mode and "loud" mode, works quite well :D

Can't mod for a while is rubbish, mine isn't even a year old yet :p

Really? What about warranty?

How do you operate the modes? May I ask who built it please?

In other news, my backup plan from not finding a Spec C Type RA would have been a very low mile, high grade Spec C. There's one on right now. Grade 4.5 23KMs would have been about £15-17K on the road here.

Knew that would happen :)

It no doubt affects the warranty, but a standard Subaru and me just don't get along as well as a noisy one :)

Built by Area52 Autosport, just controlled with a little remote control. Not got round to tapping it into anything smarter yet.

Dropped my reg number certificate off at the dealers and the guy said the car is due 14th. I pointed out that was good Friday and so it looks like I'll have to wait until next week. Was hoping to get it beforehand as I have a long ish trip Monday and wanted to get some miles under it.

However, Subaru are now thowing in one of these EE 4G hub things?? for free. Makes the car a wifi hotspot. I struggled to contain my excitement :) a £600+ option apparently. Would rather have had the cash :D

£600 option?? Why is it so expensive? Can't argue with it being free though. Got a link?

How much are you paying if you don't mind me asking? Seeing as the price has risen significantly recently?

£32K and a bit. Includes the new tax rate of £1700! Although thereafter £140 a year is pretty good.

No idea why the hub thing is so expensive.

Turns out, it came today :)

Sounds better than I expected. Can still hear the rumble. Picking up tomorrow.

Got a P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire on the car at the moment. Had it not long after buying the car so the dealer took it back and (so we both thought) rectified the fault with help from a well known Subaru specialist.

Last week the fault came back. It's an odd one. The car appears to be fine, drives spot on. The fault comes only when the car is sat ticking over. Sometimes a solid light, other times a flashing one that goes. If I start the car and drive it straight away, there is no CEL.

I cleaned the MAF which made no difference. I've ordered a new IACV gasket so I can get that off and clean that too as I have noticed the revs dropping below the 'normal' idle speed around the time this fault has come back.

The other thought I had was a failing Front O2 sensor? From research the Front O2 will be in closed loop when idling, a possibility the O2 is failing but throwing up a code further back?

I have a friend coming over tomorrow who works for Subaru, he's going to plug their diagnostics unit in - is there anything specific we could look at that may shine some light?

It's frustrating as Google comes back with a whole range of different resolutions!

/Edit - Coincidence or not, the code reappeared after I had a leaky centre exhaust cone gasket changed.

Ok, had the IACV off today for a clean. A bit of carbon build up and slightly sticky so worth doing never the less.

Re-fitted, started up and the fault came back instantly. Went for a good drive, sat in the car on tick-over and no fault.

I'm getting more and more convinced that it's a faulty front O2 sensor on its way out. Couldn't get it checked by my Subaru Tech buddy so going to do that this weekend.

What's the mileage Phil? My WRX had a failed front O2 sensor at about 80k which I recall is pretty common at that mileage. My symptoms were different to yours though, I started having a very slight hesitation (in fact, you could probably call it a misfire) at motorway cruising speeds but with no EML.

The hesitation came and went with no code for a while, until it started throwing a code relating to the front lambda. Replaced the lambda and the fault never reoccurred. Have you ran the car without the front lambda connected? It's the large grey plug just in front of the boost solenoid by the drivers side suspension tower.

72k miles. No I haven't disconnected it yet.

The car drives and boosts absolutely fine - the CEL only comes on when the car is sat ticking over. When the CEL starts flashing i can pick up the revs a little and it goes off.

Been reading up on the whole closed loop thing for O2 sensors which i why my thoughts now point towards that.

I haven't got my tuning laptop nearby to refresh my memory on the exact conditions but the ECU will be in closed loop fuelling below x TPS, around 3500rpm and probably x g/Rev load too. So logically if the CEL is only lit during idle a light throttle cruise then O2 sensor would be very plausible

It won't ever light up when the car is under any sort of 'load', let's say 1200rpm+. It's literally just when the car is sat at idle which is around what, 800rpm?

Finally got rid of the space saver and fitted the alloy with (another :() brand new Eagle F1. 600 miles and ~2 weeks on the old tyre and it was trashed. Lesson learnt!

The car's only been sitting 3 weeks and the battery (which was crap anyway) was flat. Caused much hilarity when I went to unlock it, the alarm must have thought the battery had been disconnected and went off... constantly. Cue me having to hook up jump leads in order to disarm the alarm and shut it up. Stuck a better battery on it and will see how I get on with that. Started it up and drove it round the compound it's in to warm it up. Miss it so much... especially today. Weather has been great and I've seen about 6 other Subarus being enjoyed :(

ZT is serving its purpose though. Easy 500 miles to a tank and I don't really give 2 hoots about where I park it.

Tell me about it... I'll bring it out in a couple of months. Don't want to leave it standing around for too long unused.

haha, it's in an undisclosed location :p No charge to park it there. Covered by CCTV, manned (in a way) and locked up at night.

Yeah, I'm not expecting miracles but the battery was never great to begin with. Thinking of buying a solar charger just to try to maintain some charge in the battery but seems like a waste of money when I could rotate the battery every few weeks or so... bit of a pain but there were go.

When I finally buy my house and the car is in a garage, I'll get a C-Tek. Until then, I'll have to make do with what I can.

I see the car a couple of times a week (better love story than twilight :p), not only when it needs a battery change. Don't really want a cover after I saw how it rubbed at the paintwork on my Rover. Thinking of making up a spray bottle of car shampoo so that I can clean any crap off the car as and when it happens. There is water on site so I can give the car a regular wash too if needs be.

Trust me, I know how much of a waste it is to have this car sitting around like it is. Unfortunately... it comes down to one of two options... have the car off the road for a few months at a time... or sell it. For what will be a brief spell of faffing about, I'm trying everything I can not to let this car go.
