Who here owns a Subaru?

I keep thinking about some new pads. Mine had all new disks and pads for when i bought it but i have a feeling they are from the cheaper end of the shelf. Bit of spirited driving and they start to fade pretty quick.

Did you look into a exhaust agw?

Tempted to buy a front splitter and a finned rear diffuser for mine. Anyone here reckon tiger seal would be enough to stick them on rather than having to drill holes in the bumper?

My brakes were pouring with smoke after a couple of fast laps at Curborough but they still had some braking force, quite impressed actually. Not sure what's on there at the mo.

Did some reading and a quick browse on Godspeed and it looks like the CL RC5+ are worth a look. The old RC5 pads were apparently pretty brutal on discs and caused metal shards to stick to the side of the car... Which then rusted when it got wet  The newer RC5+ pads are supposed to be better. May be the route I go down.

Exhaust I'll probably go 3" to 2.5" downpipe to a Nur Spec R. Not sure yet, still decisions to be made. Pads and cambelt change are on the cards before I do anything else.

I was thinking a finned rear splitter too, love how they look! Just not really feeling spending all that money on a piece of plastic haha

Sort of productive day today.

Started off with fitting HEL braided lines, filled with ATE TYP200 Fluid and new Pagid pads all round.

Forgot about bleed order, Googled (forgot about the page previous ) and bled away. One ginked up bleed nippled cleared and all seemed well. Wasn't impressed on the test drive. Turns out we bled in the wrong order, opposite to how we should have. Balls. Back on that tomorrow!

Buttoning wheels back up and the McGard locking wheel nut key snapped. Need to sort that this week.

P0302 has still been present. Only thing that was changed before it came back was the exhaust cone gasket. When it was being changed I noticed one side was a bodge of random bolt/nut/washer so ordered some genuine replacements. Could be clutching at straws here but the idle is MUCH smoother and the CEL didn't come on when it usually would. Will see how I get on with it this week.

Also got a squeaky clutch that I need to sort. Google returns multiple solutions. I've tried a squirt of brake fluid on the slave cylinder, next steps is to try and grease the clutch fork pivot, in situ.

/Edit - bought and fitted the Tegiwa brake stopper too. No different when braking sensibly. Press the brake pedal with some ferocity however and it gives a much firmer feel. Excellent for the money.

As not to derail the 350Z thread any further, thought I'd ask here for some advice. Basically, I'd like another Japanese car – and after whittling through the usual suspects (RX-7s, R32s, R33s, Supras, 350Zs, etc), one highly rated candidate is an Impreza of some form. In particular, a Spec C example.

I've seen this, which floats my boat: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Impreza-Sti-spec-C/322431577703

... but would something like this be a better bet at that kind of money, in terms of holding its value? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-Suba...mited-Sonic-Blue-22B-P1-GC8-JDM-/322501486783

Worth pointing out that I would like to use the car as intended, as well as perhaps carrying out a few sensible upgrades.

Not hugely au fait with Imprezas, outside of the obvious and a few examples like the Catalunya/RB5/P1...

The GC8's are certainly holding their value, to a point where the price of some cars is just way way over priced! But if you're planning to drive it as intended, I think you'd be better off with the Spec C. A V4 STi (not read the description of that particular one yet) will be wanting engine, turbo, maybe even gearbox, suspension and brake work due to age. But the burble is very much alive in the GC8 unlike the Spec C which only sounds good once it gets going.

That Spec C (looking at the pictures) is potentially the motorsport version, hence the seats. Which will mean it comes with smaller brakes too. So again you'd want to spend some money, but it's the type of car that's going to be very capable with a few mods.

I struggled to find a clean Spec C when I was looking. They all had too many issues which I'd want to rectify and were at too high a price. However, I believe ScoobyClinic have a nice bugeye Spec C in and it hasn't sold due to high price, but it looked relatively clean when I saw it at a glance. It just so happens to have my old lightweight BBS wheels on it too...

I really like the RC5+ pads, i had a set in my old Widetrack and currently have a set in my classic WRX with 4pots. Coped very well with track days in my widetrack, far far better than any rubbish EBC make anyway.. One thing to note is they are very noisy which will annoy some people, as it's not my every day car it's not an issue but if it was daily driven it could drive you mental if things like that get to you.

I would like to buy from a dealer, this time around...

Would you import one?

I was using Torque GT to import a Spec C but in the end bought a new one (STI that is)

We had a bit of a wobble over a Spec C Type RA I almost bought off them but I was still happy to go with them importing.

They offer warranty and support with the cars they import. You pay, obviously, but at least you have a bit of peace of mind when buying an imported car.

CEL still came on. Decided to pull the TMIC off and inspect/clean the PCV as this has been reported as causing similar symptoms to what I am experiencing.

TMIC off and PCV out. Sticking (but not all the time) closed - if nothing else cleaning it is some more maintenance done but I'm hoping it may help towards resolving the idle CEL issue.

Still in bits at the moment as I want to replace the clutch fluid before I refit the TMIC.

Off to Nurburgring next week with her :D

Well i did a bit of 1/4 drag racing on Sunday @ North Weald Esex which is my home drag strip.

Its on concrete so i was not expecting huge things to happen.

Sunday came, temps were very low to start only about 9 degrees, and due to noise restrictions we were told only 1/8 mile racing would be completed first :(

How sad was i LOL. But i was gagging for a race so had 3 runs up the 1/8, i have never really raced this distance, so all the races were irrelevant as i have no benchmark figures to go by, i enjoyed the 3 races though.

We stopped for lunch and 1/4 racing was back on :)

My launch control is set to 5800rpm, but due to the concrete runway, and being so cold i struggled to get any type of grip at all, my first race 1st gear popped out as i tried to launch, but i kept going managed a 12.47 @ 114mph. Not too bad for my 1st run in 6 months.

As the launch control was causing too much axle trampling i decided to go back to the old skool launch of raising the revs and then dropping my clutch, this seemed to work really well, the first time i did it the car snaked off the line, but other than that was a really good run 12.23 @ 116mph, i then followed that up with 2 other runs which i used the old skool launch, i lost a little bit of boost in 2nd gear, but the car was on fire today, next 2 runs i did a 12.28 @ 119mph and then to finish off i did a 12.51 @ 120mph

My car keeps amazing me every time i go drag racing, my terminal speeds really surprised me, not sure what times i would have got on a properly prepared track or if the temps were a little higher, i was also messing around with tyre pressures aswell on the day just to see what worked best. I have also tried a different set up on the alloys and tyres from last year aswell. Plus i had my stock suspension uprated to KYB SR Ultras, which may have helped, as the original Pro drive items were knocking quite badly.

I have loads more drag events planned this year, so hopefully i may get that elusive 11.99 that i have been after for so long, then what to do keep or sell up :P My passion for this car is huge, every time i get in her i enjoy, even the thought of purchasing a GTR 35 does not take away the passion i have for the very underated Subaru :)

Crossing the line at 120mph now dude! Wow!

Fair to say there's 100% an 11sec run in there. You'll get it soon!

There was a slight tail wind, but nothing major, tbf the car felt really good, launch control at 5800rpm is killing my starts i think, i get so much axle bounce, it just pops my 1st gear out sometimes LOL.

But i think 1 day a 11.99 will be there if i get that perfect launch into 2nd keeping the boost up :) but really impressed with my terminal speeds :)

Made my own Header Tank spacers today. 20°c-ish difference now between the Header Tank and Inlet Manifold.

Got enough stuff left to knock up/sell a few sets too :D

Torque GT are one of the best in the U.K, he will not import a duff car............EVER !

Thanks for that. I had read about the brake squeal under gentle braking but am fortunate enough that the car isn't a daily. Also, if I know the source of the noise, it wouldn't bother me that much... especially when I eventually change the exhaust ;)

Nice Mike, was he there to tow your 2.5 home? :D

Phil, glad to hear you had good results with the brake stopper... and now the spacers... little mods like that can make such a difference!
