Who here owns a Subaru?

I really liked the RB320, especially after coming straight from a non-PPP STI which was so underwhelming it nearly put me off Subaru forever.

The RB320 just pulled like a train through every gear, but felt effortless too. The brakes still felt **** to me though like in any other Impreza I've tried, they always feel unresponsive to me compared to other performance cars I've had.

I like the idea of a WR1, just don't like the colour personally. Value wise, seeing good ones as low as £9K now. I think it's because the 2005 with DCCD and other revisions is more desirable.

Who here has a turbo timer? Are they worth getting?

I am starting to think that I want more power from my car and would like at least 300BHP.

I know sweet FA when it comes to tuning - when I want more power, I normally buy a faster car, but I would like to get the exhaust changed. There are uppipes and downpipes, what's the difference? The downpipe I thought was from the exhaust manifold to the rest of the exhaust system, so what is the uppipe?

Scoobysport exhausts, any good?

Which version STI have you got? Sorry, can't be bothered to wade back through the thread to check. Unless it's the hatch version you will need a new fuel pump and a remap, and that's about it. Other things help, but they are all that is necessary.

No, you don't need a turbo timer; it's an expensive gimmick. If you have been seriously caning it, just leave engine idling for thirty seconds and you'll be fine. If you've been cruising, no matter how fast, you're fine to just turn the engine off. The oils and turbos have got a lot better since this issue first raised its head.

The up-pipe is the pipe that runs form the manifold to the turbo, and supplies the gas to spin the turbo. Leave it alone until you are aiming for 400bhp or more. FWIW, it looks like this (it's the pipe on the right):

In general, the bit you need to replace is the cats, and the downpipe. Most people remove the middle cat, which will help a bit, and some remove everything from the top cat back. But once the middle cat is removed, it's the top cat and the down pipe which matter. But they're more complicated and expensive to change than the cat-back option so most go for a cat-back. And as I said: for 300bhp don't waste your time and money - your car just needs the pump and remap to make that figure to spare.

07 hawkeye here, drive it to work twice a week intermixed with a pretty awesome shed, being the Ford Mondeo 1.8 (2000 plate).

The Mondeo has lasted me right back to my Rev 3 440bhp MR2 Turbo, I loved that car it was pure evil, with its Motoria twin exhaust it used to flame at me and pop / bang like a mortar going off, the best was at night, hit it down the motorway and then on the overrun on the turn off bang and you could see the yellow under the rear spoiler, awesome.

The worst was after spending 3k on a engine rebuild the gearbox failed on a roundabout and some chick beeping at me in a ***** Focus ST even though the hazzards were on, I sold it - I couldnt stomach more £k I spent a small fortune on that car but it kept on letting me down, head gasket, gearbox, £ss turbos, now I have the evil Scooby.

Subaru forever, love it, amazing handling.

Went on the West-Mids-Impreza tunnel run last night. Awesome fun. 75+ Subarus all raising money for the Midlands Air Ambulance. In total we raised £486.75! Great night had.

Couple of pics I took off my phone:

My search begins at the weekend. Quiz time if anyone wants to partake in fantasy car buying...

Find me an Impreza STI for sale that you would buy and tell me why. Distance no issue. Budget £8000-£10,000. Any colour but silver/crystal grey. Go... :D

I will have a look for you when I get chance mate.

No 22Bs at the tunnel run unfortunately, but a good selection of models!

Went to Curborough again today.... in the rain! I'll let this short video explain how it was!

I have noticed that when my engine is cold, the clutch will judder. I last night, in all my wisdom, thought I would launch it (was really wet) and to went like poo off a shovel - could smell burning rubber... couldn't smell clutch at all (I didn't dump the clutch).

Then when I pulled into my road, stopped, couldn't get a space so popped it into reverse and it nearly stalled and felt like one sharp judder (if that makes sense) then I could really smell clutch.

Car has done 70k, presumably on the same clutch - do you think I just helped kill it sooner?

What are these like? If I've got to change something, I may as well upgrade...

STI clutches usually judder a bit when cold - they've got to handle a fair bit of power, and prefer to do it warm. Just apply enough revs, use it gently, and you should be OK. I'm impressed by the lifespan though: mine's done 75k miles and is on its third clutch.

The clutch is good (the second clutch in my car was one of theirs), but don't buy it from them. Their reputation is not of the best.
