Who here owns a Subaru?

Pinged him a message, but the upshot is, its too cheap, too far away, was off the road for over 2 years in 2014 for some reason, failed an MOT in 2017 because of corrosion ("Central Front Suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded"), and it only has a months MOT left. :p

Still... I'll see what he says lol

Looks to me like he just wants shot of it before the MOT expires because he knows it won't pass. Hence the low price to try and lure in some mug like me. :D

that's probably a two year ban for D & D or two years in the Nick for dealing :p........... that car will be too rusty as a donar for a Factory Five

What parts of a Subaru does the kit use? Doesn't look like much if any, I couldn't find a reference to Subaru on a quick glance at their site.

I'm thinking of turning my MX5 into an Exocet rather than fix the rust on it as you only use the power train so the rust doesn't really matter with that.

It basically the same, uses pretty much everything from the Impreza donor apart from the body

The key to the 818 being completed for under $15,000 is to use as many parts from the donor car as possible. The parts needed from a 2002-2007 Subaru Impreza/WRX sedan or wagon (except STI models*) include the following:

  • subaru-donor-1768x1100.jpg
Front spindles with full brakes and front lower control arms
  • Rear spindles with brakes and E-brake handle/cables
  • Steering rack, tie rod ends, and upper steering column assembly
  • Pedal box and throttle pedal
  • Master cylinder and brake booster, and clutch master cylinder
  • Engine with turbo and intercooler (if WRX model)
  • Exhaust manifolds, O2 sensors, and down tube
  • Transmission
  • Rear lower control arms, toe links, and CV joints
  • Front seats, front seat belts, and gauge pod
  • Fuel pump and fuel level assemblies
  • Radiator and fan
  • Wheels and tires
  • Door hinges, rear with latches, strikers, and inside door handles
  • Side view mirrors, left and right
  • Rear view mirror
  • Rear seat belts
*You can use a 2004-2007 Subaru STI as a donor car for your 818 build including the engine, but not as a single donor car build. The following parts will need to be sourced from an Impreza/WRX:

  • Front spindles and hubs
  • Rear spindles and hubs
  • CV Axles
  • Transmission (Pre-2006 STI transmissions will not work with the 2 wheel drive adapter)
  • Wiring harness
you need to find parts from two cars !!!!!! .............. but of course as you can imagine, IT'S REALLY FAST.................my guess is they dont sell many because most people will go for the AC Cobra or the Hot Rod.

guys, whats the best oil for my car now? Cheers

Decent brand fully synth. Millers or equivalent. My personal choice is Fuchs Pro Race S. I use 5w40 but knowing how hard you drive it and with the extra power, a 50 weight might be more suitable.

Ignore anyone who tells you to use a 60w in a 330bhp car.

Obviously a 50 is thicker than a 40 so might take a little while longer to get the oil warm. You could probably do with an oil temp gauge.

Was looking at them earlier actually. Where are yours from again? They expensive ones i have been coming across.

I think SC put 10/40 in when i was at 330. Will order some later and get it done at weekend.

@agw_01

10w40 is fine, it's just a bit thicker when cold. I was thinking of running 10w40 in summer, 5w40 in winter but I can't find Pro Race S in 10w40.

Mine are Prosport peak/warn gauges, about £50 each. I've had a few sets over the years and they've been absolutely fine. They use electrical senders, so no piping hot oil into the back of the gauge. I wouldn't use an electrical boost gauge though, all the ones I've used have been slower to respond than a mechanical gauge.
