Who here owns a Subaru?

3 months after wrecking my classic Impreza's engine on a trackday I've bought a 2003 Blobeye STI. I had 'decided' that I was not going to bother with high performance cars anymore and was going to save money instead for a house deposit, however when the opportunity came to buy this car for £6200 I couldn't resist! (Apologies for the awful camera phone pics)

Only 53k miles on the clock, FSH + a few mods. It has a Miltek decat downpipe and a Miltek backbox, k&n typhoon induction kit, APS TMIC (it is massive!), baileys vta dump valve (will be swapping for a recirc valve soon I think), Whiteline adjustable trailing arms. Also it originally had the PPP pack fitted. I'm not going OTT on more mods - the shocks will probably need to be replaced soon so I'll go for some BC coilovers an uprated rear ARB and a Whiteline anti-lift kit. I wasn't expecting it to feel much better than my classic but I've got to say it is far superior when going for a spirited drive, it just feels so much more planted.

ive been looking at What to replace my clio sport 172 with, and ive been looking for the last few months, and lately ive been convincing myself that i want to 2003+ WRX model (not STi)

how much do you think a good one would cost?

thanks

they do seem to be rather cheap, at that price the lter models start comming into that price bracket

i had a look at work today on my phone and i could possibly get a WRX saloon with 55K on it for under 5K, but i have no idea if scoobies are good at this price or would you be getting a dog?

You can get a good example in your price bracket, no problem. Just do your homework and pick the right one.

something like this ?

i dont like silver cars though, but im just talking about the general idea

Yep, something like that spec, mileage and age can be had for your budget. Take a look at the UK300 model too, not sure if the insurance will be higher though but it does have the prodrive upgrades amongst other things, it maybe difficult to find one of those though.
Also check the insurance on the WRX prodrive versions, if you can manage it then look for one with the Prodrive pack on.

When I was getting quotes before buying my STI the prodrive versions werent any higher to insure with some of the Insurers.

food for thought mate, thank you, but wouldnt the tax be on the next band up pushing it to over £400 a year? or am i barking up the wrong tree?

Not sure, you will need to look but iirc as a rough guide the Hawkeye versions are the higher £400 tax bracket, Blobeye/bugeye are lower, I think mine is £275 a year on a 54 plate STI, that reminds me it runs out this month, better get on the website and get some more lol.

Thats not as bad as I expected. Im 28 with 5+years ncb.

It might be more reasonable than I expected. For some reason Ive become interested in these, Im going through a phase of wanting a car, then deciding against it.

The Impreza has been cool ever since I was a teen and I would love to rag one about :). I dont do much mileage at all really.
