Who here owns a Subaru?

Its standard on spec b probably not on others. Some add a Parrot but I don't like non standard dangly things in my car. Dog not included.

Also they seem to be getting rarer these days esp the manual tourer.

Any Impreza owners amongst us?

As the title says, I see a fair amount of love for the fords but do any of you have a " proper " car ;). <-- Sarcasm included.

Any probs with the 2007? What year S3. I've seen that hawk on Scoobynet ;).

Always a niggling fear with the 2.5 - I had plans to forge mine but ended up selling it, partly for that reason as seen several of the local owners club members have the worst fear come to reality. Much prefer the look of a hawk but if we're to have another it would need to be forged for my own sanity. Don't like the equal length header JDMs.

My S3 was 2007, quality car and technically the best car I've ever owned, but likewise it lacked any real character.

What would you do if you were buying an old classic with the intention of modding it. I have two I am interested in:-

1) Standard unmolested MY00 UK Turbo in dark blue mica with no obvious signs of rust, under 100K miles on untouched engine. Generally decent honest looking car.

2) Modded MY98 in red. 2.5 engine built and mapped by highly regarded people on SNet. TD05 turbo, Newage Brembo brakes, sti 6 speed gearbox. genuine DEFI gauges, suspension and other some other bits and bobs.

I've been on SNet for a while and I know the work will have been to a high standard. However the bodyshell is tatty, one of the arches is showing through and its red which frankly is nasty IMO. Sills have an advisory on the last MOT.

So buy no1 and mod the car over time. Probably not to the level of no2 but a few little bits here and there as we go.

Or no2 and hope that when I take it to a local bodyshop they don't condemn the shell. The parts this car has 2nd hand would come close to the price its been offered to me.

Ideally, by both, swap the bits then sell whats left but way beyond my capabilities.

I'd go for option 1, better to start off with a good foundation. Bits are cheap to add on as you go.

My Scooby is due in for a service, I think someone reversed into my front driver side wing so it's seen better days. Going to wait a few months and get all the bodywork done.

better than favor in laws. big arctic hit him at lights, right off :( was a mint eg aswell.

hes not sure what to get now maybe a newer scoob or evo.

Just put my car up for sale properly as i've finally decided to sell it, what do you guys think to the price i've got it up for? it's the cheapest 05 plate on pistonheads but it does have higher mileage. I just don't know if half the sellers out there are dreamers or if they're actually worth more than i think?

Depends how quick you want to sell it. Personally I think it's too much. It's a 10 year old impreza would you pay £8,500 for it?

I would drop that price to £7999 to attract more people, if it had lower mileage then maybe.
I am going to sell mine soon but really dont know what to put it up for, it's a 54 plate STI with 70000 on the clock, it does not look in as good nick as yours though and needs a few things doing to it. I was thinking of putting it up for 5k or so.

On another note - do the newer age hatchbacks with 2.5 engines suffer the same woes as the hawkeyes?

Anything to look out for in particular on '04 (53 plate) STI's?

Going to look at one tomorrow after work and just wanted to know if there's anything i might miss. Also what to pay for one looks in good nick only 49k on clock.

Prices are doing silly things at the moment, kind of makes me wish I had held on to mine. Some are saying £8-10k even for a non widetrack STi, so long as it has low mileage and is in good condition.

Main things I'd look for are the knocking rear suspension (can't avoid it really) - bad synchros in 4th, 5th & 6th gear, and then general things that you'd look for on any car.

Also you want to check for modifications, if they have been catered for with a remap and by who, what fuel it has been run on etc.

Simple cars really.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind I went to see it today looks near mint but the roads closed outside the dealer so couldn't test drive grrrr...
