Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

One of the biggest mysteries in life is why anyone orders a Golf R in any colour other than Lapiz blue. Just stunning.
I picked my R up a couple of weeks ago. I initially wanted a Lapiz one but was really taken by a silver one when I got there so ended up going Silver. She's an absolute beauty :)

Cheers! I had decided on Indium Grey before going to the dealership, as soon as I saw Lapiz in the showroom though that was that. :)

I do like Onyx, White Silver and Indium grey as well, all good colours imo! But yeah, had to be Lapiz for me.

Finally replaced the Gti I lost on 12th Dec in the snow, very slow slide into the back of a HGV that slammed it's brakes on. No airbag deployment so should have kept it really but I was looking at £800 for parts + new OEM xenons, wasn't worth it.

After searching, umming and arring between another gti, an 3.0S XF or a BMW 330D I settled on a gti. Had to go for a 3 dr to get the spec I wanted which isn't a massive deal and ended up with a red one, which was about 4th place in the list of colours I was looking at:

It had a terrible screeching from the back end which I got money off with. Had both rear discs/pads replaced, 1 x calliper and a wheel bearing at £360.

Still needs the cam follower changing, good clean/mop and ceramic coating, want to replace the 17" alloys with the 18" Monza diamond cut shadow alloys. A relay/fuse for the headlight washers, the parrot system remote doesn't work, a new engine cover/intake pipe (common issue) but may just throw an induction kit on it. Also needs the sunroof drainage channels cleaning out I think with a replacement switch for it.

That's the bad bits.

Overal it's in great shape for the age, 96k on the clock. heated electric leather seats, xenons, highline dash, folding mirrors, pretty much every extra going.
full coilovers on it, can't remember the brand off the top of my head but the mechanic sais they were the best you can get.
Miltek exhaust system cat back
supposedly had a remap but I've been unable to determine that, suspect it has along with the DSG.

lovely to drive and it's nice having the acceleration back.

Next steps are to pop some wind deflectors on it and sort the little niggles. get the cam follower done and see about a stage 2 tune towards the end of the year.

Why is this a thing lately?

Actually, on the mk5 it's more of a necessity than anything else, due to the shape of the roof as soon as the window is slightly down even washing the windscreen results in water dripping in on the door handle where the window buttons are.

I actually prefer the look without them on but as long as it's not peeing down or I'm doing 50mph+ my windows will be open at least slightly.

Easier to close your windows than put JDM yo daft stuff on m.

You had me up to JDM after that it makes no sense.

If I want to have the window open I will. If I need to put wind deflectors on to do it then so be it. I'd rather fit them and protect the interior of the car than have to drive around constantly being worried about any slight water getting in.

As for JDM stuff, have you spent much time in the VW scene? visit any VW group and you'll find most have them on for the exact reason I've stated.

You do have to love these forums at times...

Mk7 and 7.5 are the same but would rather drown in washer fluid than fit deflectors.

+1

A new Golf GTi has arrived in our household. Went with Isaac Blue...sensational colour! I picked the car up (although its not mine!) drove it home and since has been decontaminated, washed, clayed, polished and Gtechniq CSL&EXO applied to it! Pics to follow!

I'm glad to say the MK7.5 is even better than my MK5 (which was a great car!).

I have a white MK7 Golf R, not sure if I ever posted pictures in here. It was APR Stage 2 with a Remus exhaust on it when I bought it, 404 BHP 423lb-ft torque and ridiculously loud. I stripped all the bits off and had it put back to APR Stage 1 instead so its around 360BHP now. Silly power for the money, not as fun or engaging to drive as my old EP3 Type R before hand though. I'm not keen on the kind of attention they attract but I currently live in an apartment with a gated car park and security cameras so its less of a concern.

I have been considering swapping to something more sensible but just can't bring myself to do it yet.
