Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

Never really been into cars but always liked the GTI. So I did a bit of reading and now I'm obsessed.

Are the prices really that inflated at the moment from covid? Looking at mk7.5 GTI PP now my commute is only once a week max. It will be parked on the street as well which I'm a bit concerned about.

I don't think you can get Brescia wheels in Black from factory as they are Diamond Cut therefore imagine these have kerbed/damaged previously and been refurbished then powder coated black.

I know no real logic is applied here but any car with OEM alloys sprayed black I personally avoid for my own stereotypical reasons, probably driven hard in a chavy manner :D

Edit: Not sure if it is angle but whats with the rear right hand side wheel alignment?

Yeh good points, I'd think a long the same lines. Cheers.

Lots to learn with this GTI buying business.

I still cannot get over how badly VW appear to have messed up everything with the Mk.8 outside of the drivetrain. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=86&t=1929402

My parents are looking to replace their Mk6 GTI and are drawn to the Mk8 GTI as a natural replacement. However, the horror stories of the new VW infotainment system are really really off-putting. My dad reckons it won’t be a problem but I can see him and my mum (both in their early 70s) going absolutely crazy with it. Hell, my mum won’t even use a smartphone or tablet.

Problem is my mum insists on a manual, and my dad wants something with some poke. The GTI is the clear compromise but god damn that infotainment system is a world of pain. I mean no buttons for climate or heated seats?? Poor form!

Been considering a Golf as a general daily/family/fast/all round second car. I've been looking at a way to a 300bhp ish hot hatch for under 7k. I'm thinking the Edition 30 is a good shout given that they come with the K04 turbo as stock, and this can be remapped fairly easily up to high 200s. Any thoughts on this vs an older R32, or even a stock GTI for cheaper then doing a K04 turbo upgrade?

Mk6 GTI needs 400-500ml of oil before its August annual service.
I’ve only got 5W30 504 00/507 00 longlife oil I use for my A6.

It should take 502 00. The dealer’s been using 5W40. Half a litre of this long life stuff isn’t going to grenade the engine is it?
Should I buy a litre of 5W40 502 00 or just chuck in some of this long life 5W30?

Best advice I can give is to try it :)
Thank you captain obvious. :p

I've test driven one that had it but not one without. Got the opportunity to buy one with everything I want but not DCC, which I've put a deposit down on (fully refundable) got two days to play with.

But not sure I'm going to get the chance to find one closer I could test derive to see in that time...

The thing is, it’s irrelevant me telling you it’s needed, because it’s personal preference.

I find that the Golf has a pretty good suspension setup anyway - handles bumps as well as I would want.

But it depends on quality of the roads around you and the size of the rims on the car.

Well I thought it was coming from where you adjust the steering wheel height, or behind that part. Where is that located my I add? I appreciate the chances of it being the same thing are slim but I'll try anything.

Ok. So I finally sorted this. I took the car to the garage explaining the issue, picked up the car and they said they’d sorted a ‘loud’ noise that occurs when breaking/accelerating. I didn’t even know there was a sound here? They replaced the mounts for the air pipes/unit, cost me £85! Got in the car and drove off, same rattle, I was ready to cry :D

Decided I’d just take the car apart and I finally found the culprit, a ‘CAN Gateway’ was rattling off the steering rod, whatever you call it. It was just hanging there. Not sure where it should be located but I can make sure it’s securely put somewhere. What actually is this?

I’m not sure whether to complain to the garage to be honest.

Temperamental Mk6 GTI doesn’t want to engage first gear when it feels like it.
Does resetting the “speed shifter adjustment” really fix the problem? Seems something too American to be true.
