Ordered a mk8 Golf R as next lease. Going by the VWROC forums the lead/build times are much delayed with part shortages. Dealer reckons November but I'm expecting more like Feb/march
So could well cancel it, will see if get a build week over the next month or two.
I ordered an R, on lease, January 12th, and as of June 16th it still hadn't even been given a build date. I've ended up cancelling. It was a completely base car.
The lease company said originally they were expecting delivery to be March. I had a Leon cupra on lease at the time and that was going back end of May. Lease Company said they would hold onto R for the two months so I ordered.
The whole lead time debacle is a mess and from what I've seen on VWRoc forums. People are miffed to say the least with VW and the lack of communication and different stories being told to them by dealerships. I saw one quote of a dealership saying they are being told 48 week lead time now. The communication I had was non existant, but I think that's because the lease company weren't being told anything by VW. It was me chasing every month to see if anything was moving etc.
It's well documented there is a global shortage of the semi conductor chips for these cars, vw aren't alone but the difference is it seems is that other manufacturers are being upfront about the delays they are experiencing.
I actually now have a little corsa for the time being, as after looking round for an alternative to the R I found myself still really wanting an R so I've actually now ordered one to buy lol. Plus the prices of second hand cars atm is just going up and up, especially mk7 Rs.
Luck be have it I work for the NHS and through a company called motorfinity I can get a pretty decent discount on new. I've ordered pure white, dcc, hk audio and winter pack for 34k, supposed list price was 42k.
They quoted me 18 week lead time, to which I laughed hard at, the guy asked why I was laughing and I explained the above a little and he said, well that's what VW have just quoted me. That was 2 weeks ago so VW aren't really being upfront at all with the situation even now.
