Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

I picked this up last night. 1 previous owner 16 plate GTI (DSG) with Performance Pack, 19" Santiago's, Pro Nav, Dynaudio, Parking pack and reversing camera. I need to take some proper pictures, but for now it's safe to say I'm loving it.

Beautiful!

It was on my list after being priced out of buying a 340i/S4, but ended up getting a really good deal on a 320d from a family member who is retiring from driving.

Let me know what you think on the Dynaudio system.

That look's great, not usually a fan of red but it really suits the car.. looking forward to seeing more photo's.

I keep looking at GTI's but they are certainly expensive at the moment, how much did you pay may I ask?

I have strong money in my GTD but to get a MK 7.5 GTI with DSG it requires a couple of grand which my sensible head is saying keep it in the bank :o

The value of your GTD may be inflated at the moment - worth trying to research how much the cost difference would have been pre covid and see whether you’re in any worse situation as a result. You might find they’ve both increased at the same rate.

Yes my GTD has gone up over 2/3k. I'm not sure how much GTI's were before so might have a look into that although pretty much GTI's are now Golf R money as of a year ago.

Due to the inflation is why I've been looking daily to see if I can jump into a GTI for not very much additional cash before the rate drops but I guess it drops on both cars so more a case of waiting for the right one to pop up. (Has to be Indium Grey I think) or may consider White Silver actually this time round.

Im fairly confident I would have been able to get a 2015/16 GTI with Dynaudio for ~15k pre covid.

They’re now going for 18+ :(

Pretty much this.

To put it into perspective I have been offered at 3 places including VW themselves £18,250-£18-750 for my MK 7.5 GTD . (2017 - Manual) and for a MK 7.5 GTI Automatic is over £20/21/22k with low-ish mileage.

I even considered going into an an identical GTD but Automatic for £1500 and my car but no doubt in 6 months time would be here wanting a GTI again.

The premium on "Hot-ish" Hatchbacks is unbelievable.

Still tweaking it, but its pretty good tbh, far, far better than stock. The reason it took me so long to find one I wanted was because it had to have Dynaudio, PP and camera. (I was also pretty keen for it be be red with the 19's too!)

I don't think it would be that low, 16k-16.5k maybe, but not 15, and that would have been without anything else, wheels etc. or it would have a lot of miles on it.

The red and black works so well together in the flesh, picture doesn't really do it justice as it was a quick shot in a car park on the way home.
I paid a touch over £18k for mine, its got just over 44k on the clock. First thing the dealer said to me was the price wasn't negotiable!

My dad had a scirocco R a few years ago with Dynaudio and I remember it sounding phenomenal for the type of music I listened to at the time (lots of house/electronic).

Yeah closer to 16 than 15, usually stock alloys and standard suspension etc and ~50k miles.

Its pretty across the board in recent times although has softened a little.

I bought a Golf GTI (mk6) about 6 weeks ago as was given ~5 days notice of having to return to the office one day a week - was in the middle of car reshuffle and only had my Ferrari which I didn't want to use so rushed out and bought the Mk6 GTI as a safe place to put £6.5k in the short term; while I wait and find out the long term situation with commuting at least. Mine was one of the cheapest for sale (that looked like you'd want to buy it anyway) and now there's a lot more choice and lower miles for the same money.

Couldn't justify a GTD for GTI money though, that's quite crazy. I did look at GT TDI's for a little bit instead but often they just don't seem to get looked after to the same standards from what I could see.

Definitely a noticeable step down in interior quality vs my old B8 S4 of the same age but perhaps an unfair comparison. Surprisingly fun to throw around the back roads that I know well though.

Anyone have any experience with OBDEleven? I would like to disable kessy and read it can be done via OBD11...

Autowatch Ghost II is on my list too.

I think you did well there as can’t seem to find something as nice as yours for that money. You did the right thing waiting and finding the right one.

Yes Red and Black does look good, I have seen a few Red GTI’s with wrapped Black Mirrors and even Roofs it all ties in and look’s really good.

What range of MPG are you getting during “Normal” driving?

I know MPG isn’t important when driving it how it is meant to be driven but as they are a perfect daily be interested to know.

@Gilbert89, thank you. Yes I agree, I love the colour combo. I did look at a black one and a dark blue one, neither looked anywhere near as good as the tornado red in the flesh, IMO.

They seem to pop up now and again, but you have to be quick, I put a (refundable) deposit down on that before they had pictures up on AT after speaking with the dealership.

As for MPG, well I've only filled up with E10 so far, not put super in it yet, next tank will be VPower. But it said I got an average of 34mpg (iirc) out if the last tank, which given it is/was my new toy I thought was pretty good. ;)

I have noticed that if you boot it it'll easily drop in to single digits.

With that said, like you mentioned you don't buy a car like that if MPG is your main concern.

@chroniclard is your R an 8? Saw one at the dealership when I picked up mine, cracking looking motor they are.

Good stuff. Would love to hear your thoughts when you get it

How long did you have to wait for it by the way?

Originally ordered in July for an optimistic October delivery but reading about all the supply issues would be more likely next year. So I trawled round loads of lease companies and found one coming sooner. So 2 months in the end.:p

Ah that's all good, the one I saw in the dealership was lapiz blue, had the Akrapovic exhaust and the RPP. Mental looking thing. If I could get a GTI in that colour I'd be very happy. :)

While at the VW dealership on Wednesday I had a quick look at this brand new Golf R, Akrapovic exhaust, R Performance pack and that colour = over £5k in options making it £46,000!
