I ordered an R, on lease, January 12th, and as of June 16th it still hadn't even been given a build date. I've ended up cancelling. It was a completely base car.

Blimey, that's a long wait. It's this the norm for mk8 Golf R's? Has anyone in here who's ordered one received theirs yet?

Was considering the new R as I currently have a Mk7 but assumed the lead role would just be the usual 3-4 months?

I have the Mk7 R, after test driving both the Mk8 Clubsport and the R they dont really want me to change to the Mk8 . Sure they are both a peach to drive. However the infotainment system is the deal breaker to me. Call me old fashioned, I prefer using knobs and switches to control basic things such as the temperature. Hope they change the infotainment system in a few years in the Mk8.5, but for now ill stick with my Mk7 R

That's why I haven't really paid much attention to it or bothered arranging a test drive so far as, on paper, it doesn't seem like a quantum leap from my Mk7 and the pricing is pretty steep so I'd probably be looking at £20k plus to change.

Some of the stuff sounds nice like the new 7 speed DSG over my current 6 speed and the improved 4WD system with a rear differential. It would be nice to have carplay support for my phone as well so I can get navigation/media from it on the car's display. Might be a mixed blessing with the new infotainment system however as opinions on that seem mixed..

Not really sure if it's worth it when my Mk7 is going strong though?

I think it's a global problem for all manufacturers due to semi conductor shortages. For example, I think BMW are quoting big lead times too. Hence the spike in prices for second hand car market too atm.

Go onto VWRoc forums and have a look at the quoted times members have already waited etc. Problem is with vw is they don't really seem to communicating the delays to anyone, where people like BMW are. Which is what is causing a lot of frustration too.

People have received their cars, but they must have ordered very early. In my case I don't know if it was a longer delay than normal due to being a lease?

Anyone know of Mirror Cap Covers for Golf MK7 / 7.5 which are a good fit? Even OEM one’s.

Looking for Gloss Black or Indium Grey

Bought some from Amazon and they won’t sit flush despite my best efforts and it appears all clips are in securely.

I originally had my car booked in for a minor service at VW Tamworth, however the service department on the phone didn't fill me with confidence when I asked what type of service it needed and if the Haldex system needed doing yet. They didn't know what the Haldex was...

Anyway, turns out Midlands VW are highly rated and only a 2 minute drive away! I'm booked in for a full service, Haldex oil change with pump clean and DSG service next Wednesday. £640 all in seemed pretty good to me, although I worry about breaking the full VW service history now.

I've been using Midland VW for the last 20 years and they are a great garage, knowledgable, friendly and honest.

The last few VAGs I have bought have been serviced there solely, they are also great when it comes to modding as well if that is your thing :D

If I'm honest they are the reason I wont buy anything non VAG as it's great having a local specialist rather than having to deal with main dealers who dont care about doing a good job, dont necessarily do their job properly and are expensive to boot.

Had my car back from Midland VW today after having a full service, Haldex service and DSG service. They showed me a picture of the Haldex pump, it was absolutely caked in sludge, my car has only done 24,500 miles, I certainly wouldn't follow VW's recommendation for 40,000 or whatever it is.

They have also got me thinking about a stage 1 REVO remap, although £700 or so for a stage 1 remap seems quite steep.

My GTD went in for a Service as part of my “All in One” plan today and when dropped off I was told “It flew through the MOT” I was confused as my car had MOT until mid January 2022 and I only discussed booking it in for a service no mention of MOT from me or the VW Service Advisor.

A) Without discussion
B) It wasn’t anywhere near due an MOT

Just wondering on peoples thoughts on the above really. Would you be annoyed? Essentially lost 6 months MOT regardless of my next two being part of the plan.

Edit: Update

The car was serviced and MOT’d as instructed by the leasing company according to VW…

Erm it’s not a lease car??? This left them with no idea what has gone on and awaiting a call back with further info.

I picked this up last night. 1 previous owner 16 plate GTI (DSG) with Performance Pack, 19" Santiago's, Pro Nav, Dynaudio, Parking pack and reversing camera. I need to take some proper pictures, but for now it's safe to say I'm loving it.
