Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

Whilst their setup there is very impressive I didn’t have a very good experience with Celtic Tuning.

I took my Mountune mapped warranty covered ST in for a dyno a few years ago. They did the dyno then I waited for 40 minutes for someone to come get me from the waiting area. I got impatient and then went to the reception and asked what they were doing and whether I can go now.

The lady on the desk said “We just want to make sure you’re happy with the map”…cue my confusion…i said i just came in for a dyno. She rushes off and comes back and says I was about 20 seconds away from getting a new map. I am quite rightfully annoyed. The car was still under warranty with a Mountune map why would I get one of their knock off maps.

I collect the car and ask the engineer whether anything was done to the car and he said no, nothing was touched.

I write an email to them and explain my annoyances and I get an email back explaining that they angle grinded the ECU out of the tamper proof cage and they were going to map it manually as they couldn’t do it through the OBD. I go out to check the car and yes, there was angle grinder marks off over it to get it out. Annoyance intensifies.

I pushed for a new ECU cage which they begrudgingly did but that was it. No gestures of goodwill, I still had to pay for the dyno and I was still worried about my warranty if anything went wrong with the car.

The skeptic in me thinks they were trying to copy the map off my ECU.

It was odd as there was such an emphasis on making sure everything was correct before you even had an appointment time.

I’d go Revo every time.
That doesn’t sound great I’d have been equally annoyed too. I’m going to give it a go for half the price of a Revo. Worse case I don’t like it and try for my money back but they largely have good reviews so we’ll see.

Who’s had there cars remapped and by who?

Looking to get mine done but Revo and Apr are rather quite expensive but I’ve come across Celtic Tuning who are charging £300 which is about half the price of the others.

Not sure where you are based, but I've just had my 2019 R mapped by more-bhp in crewe.

I had some supporting mods with a intake, hose, turbo elbow and muffler delete fitted beforehand.

It made 390bhp and 525nm torque. Very impressed with service and they are quite highly regarding in vag tuning world.

Paid £649 for both ecu and tcu dsg map. It's done on a rolling road too. I enquired about a revo map locally at authorised dealer and they wanted £950.

Just had my THIRD water pump fitted while having the DSG and Haldex oil service on the GTI. The new punps have at lat gone over to metal impellers. They fail because they get so hot where thy are positioned between block and radiator.

Has anyone got a Mk7 R estate? If so how has it faired under ownership? Anything to look out for bar;

WP/thermostat
Gearbox
Diff?

When purchasing one?

My Golf is in for a service early June and have this morning just noticed when the accelerator is pushed down and the kick down switch is engaged upon release I hear and feel another click which it hasn’t done before, hard to explain but it is very noticeable.

Anyone else had this before? Either way I’ll ask them to take a look at it.

Cheers for that, have booked in for a pre-inspection on Monday. Even if it is picked up it’s probably worth the money regardless

Out of curiosity how did you get on?

I feel like the main criteria of the inspection must be ensuring the car isn’t remapped amongst other things obviously.

Inspection went through fine with no faults found so warranty taken. Think my next step is probably go out one evening and reproduce problem and have a passenger film it then see what VW have to say, have no previous experience with the dealer and feel I might get fobbed off unless I’m persistent but will find out

Hopefully you can replicate it, although my partner had an intermittent day time running light fault which after providing photo evidence of the warning light (Which had gone off) and the DRL not working, they replaced all the wiring loom.

Speaking of VW Faults - Cars in for a service but apparently they won’t look at faults on the same appointment annoyingly.

Mine goes in for its first service and MOT under my ownership tomorrow.

I've also got to replace the drain tube that goes from the boot catch as the rubber grommet on the end that comes out by the catch has perished, should get chance over the weekend with any luck. It's not leaked yet but want to fix it before it does.

Edit, I mean this:

Yeah I got VW to fix the boot drain issue. So far no water ingress into the boot, but one to certainly keep an eye on.

Always worth a shout under warranty, tutorials look easy until you come upto a clip that dosen’t release as easy and breaks on you.

FYI - I had a door seal go and they wouldn’t do it under warranty, via email I requested a quote for the work nobody got back to me, they went ahead and called to say it was all done and will be almost £300… I explained that I initially asked for the quote and never heard back if it was to be that expensive I would have ignored it, I ended up paying £21 for the part.

Sailed through the MOT and service, only needed brake fluid change on top of standard stuff.

Completely forgot to mention the boot drain.
