Look at my signature.

Thats recorded for over 5 years with fuelly. So 26.5 MPGs overall. I use V-Power 99.9% of the time. On longer runs you can see mid 30s to high 30s, but when you are on it, it can dip to high teens low 20s. My engine is still at stock 300ps.

26mpg, seems to be my standard in my modified mk5. regardless of the distance/drive style it alway seems to come out at 26mpg :D

Daft question, have you tried twitter for volkswagen uk? I've had to go via them a couple of times to get issues sorted, they hate negative publicity.
Sorry, missed this post but it's funny you mentioned negative publicity.

When I woke up the next day, I left a Trust Pilot review accusing them of being thieves and I had a call back within 8 minutes of posting it. I was offered £100 compensation, which I received on Monday, and have just this second received my documents.

Happy to have it resolved but I'm left wondering what issues I'll have if I have a breakdown or when I have my next MOT or service.

Had similar issues with their 12 year rust guarantee on my mk5 golf, car was 11 years when I reported it, garage kept saying it wasn't covered. I'm telling them I know rusty sills where it meets the front wing is covered, that you replace the wing, fix the sill and fit a zinc plate to stop it happening again. 5 months later, garage says stop asking. jumped on Twitter and within an hour had them on the phone asking when I'd like it booked in. Sadly it was written off in the snow before it was booked in :(

New owner checking in. Picked up my 7.5 GTI on Wednesday.

Not been driving it much as I've been busy but took it for a good drive this morning and it's absolutely fantastic.

Ah I thought they were Santiago's, same as my MK7. They are cracking cars even if my other half thinks it's too fast. :p

Got a bit of a brake upgrade pencilled in for my R.

4 pot calipers (aston martin) / j hook front & rear discs / DS2500 pads front and rear.

Also need to get rid of the P-Zeros which are on the front too, rubbish, rubbish tyres - need some PS4 on there in a big way!

Nice ! I went for Clubsport brakes when I changed mine over. The P-Zeros that came with my R was awful on anything that was wet, but they did last almost 30,000 miles. The PS4S I have now is soooo much better in comfort and grip when properly on it.

I've read that some people do go for that change - did you notice much of a benefit and if so what change did you notice - better initial bite?

On sheer principle I couldnt bring myself to change the P-Zeros as they were brand new when I got the car but they will be going once I get the opportunity! :D

Not really notice that much difference when driving 'normally'. Pretty much the same OEM feel, no more initial bite from what I can tell, from my experience the brakes on VWs and VAG are quite loose anyways. However on higher speeds braking, there is a noticeable difference for sure and feels more stronger, inspiring oneself to brake a bit later.

My 2017GTD threw a yellow error on the gearbox yesterday but said it was still ok to drive.

Bought myself an OBDeleven and read the code (My cheapo code reader couldn't read it). Turns out this code only seems to be thrown if you've had software update 23X4 (Which I had at the last service). The only way to clear the code is to revert to the previous software on the TCU (VW won't do this).
VW apparently will try to replace the Aux pump in the DSG (about £600) which is probably still working fine. It's only picked up if you've had the 23X4 update.

Read some stuff in the US where people are being advised not to accept the update as they believe VW are trying to cover up another Dieselgate scandal regarding the EA288 engine.

Service & MOT today for my R. Having Millers oil as part of the service too, also some slightly bigger spacers on the rear (20mm).

Will also enquire about cost of intercooler/downpipe - would like to go stage 2 quite soon after insurance lapses.

Will also enquire about the cost of a Venom 500 turbo plus HPFP and LPFP too - not that I'm consdering stage 3 or anything :D

Also, the crappy tyres I mentioned a few posts above were actually pirelli cinturato p7, absolute death trap in the wet - they were so bad I thought the haldex was broken. They are a "Green performance tyre" apparently which translates to "*****".
I think they were run-flats as well, my first experience with run-flats and they are terrible with bumps & pot holes - makes the car feel and sound like the bushes have gone.

Replaced now with some MPS4 :)

Been tempted to go Stage1 on my 15 plate R. 50k miles on the car. I have a VW Extended warranty which is puttting me off, but think that extra 50 horses would make it a bit more fun. Any thoughts as someone who's been there and done it? :)

I've had all of my turbo'd cars remapped so I may be biased but ABSOLUTELY! :D

Having a remap is liking having a new car in some aspects, I find standard turbo cars power delivery quite dull and a remap makes the turbo come alive.

I would recommend you get a TCU remap as well if you have DSG, IIRC at that year you would have the 6spd which (if it is the same 6 speed that was in my 8P S3) then it NEEDS a remap IMO - makes drivability much, much better and shifts in manual mode are lightning fast as opposed to feeling like it is working through sludge. Go with someone decent and you can get them to give you custom shift points too.

If you do go for a remap, you may want to change the turbo inlet pipe and turbo elbow as well to get a bit more benefit.

I went Revo Stage 1 (which was always going to be a stop-gap for me as I have dealt with Revo in the past and the software was poor past stage 1) and then changed to Unicorn Stage 1 (ECU as well as TCU) with Unicorn being noticeably better - just go with someone who has a good reputation and knows what they are doing.

Stating the obvious here but keep on top of maintenance as you will be putting more strain on moving parts. I dont and never have trusted main dealers with my cars so I pull them out the dealer network straight after purchase and get all work done at my local specialist as I trust them to do a good job.
