Who owns a Golf GTD / GTI / R?

What's the go to option for discs and pads on a performance pack GTI? I'm going to be needing new ones soon.
Get clubsport S disc and pads. Have them on my golf R and they are great if sticking with oem caliper. Not sure what size disc the gti performance pack has though. They are 340mm discs.

Really want these on my Golf R, but they ain't cheap!
No they aren't. But neither is a big brake kit, which is pretty much your only option, outside of upgrade to disc and pads, to get much better performance than stock. So for me the 700ish for clubsport disc and pads was a better choice thank 2k plus for BBK. There is a noticeable difference and I could get an upgraded caliper is I wanted later on.

Lots will argue over different disc and pads than these, especially pads as they will say get ds2500 pads. But technically they aren't road legal and that didn't sit easy with me.

Completely agree. When I come to change the brakes on mine (which won’t be long) I’ll probably go for these.

Any of you R owners have any tips for a decent modified car insurance company.

I'm currently with admiral, 43 years old, 10 years NCB, mods declared, sp30 2 years ago, claim 4 years ago.

With all that in mind paid £670 last year, no change in circumstances etc and renewal is £1177.

Done the usual online quote sites and can't get it cheaper. Tried a few specialist and waiting back for quotes which will obviously be next week.

Any you guys having similar experience with your cars and renewal prices?

Try Brentacre. They only charge extra when you increase power. Not an R owner but I own an ED35 and when I went Stage 2+ (130bhp power increase from standard) I paid an extra £130 on the spot.

Tried them, they won't insure the car unless I put a tracker on it, due to it being keyless, had the same problem with greenlight too.

Aplan are winning the race so far £844. Still close to £200 more than I paid last year.

Admiral will lower their original quote to 900 if I take out their home insurance too, but I insured the house 2 months ago lol.

Have you tried Chris Knott?

Try ringing Admiral, when I insured my car the lady said that I could get the discount even if my house/contents insurance renewal was due later. That was before I told her that I didn't have contents insurance yet so I took out both insurances at the same time.

Question:

Currently have a 2012 Mk6 GTI - pushing on for 125k on the clock, albeit with only about 15k on a rebuilt engine (previous timing chain tensioner failure). Mechanically sound.

Considering moving it on and picking up a >2017 GTI, cost to change is looking to be ~£8-9k realistically. Question is, am I going to see much difference? Is it a significant upgrade? What are the real-world differences, if any?
