Who owns a Mondeo ST220 / ST TDCI?

Been wondering ever since I got my ST if the radiator fans are supposed to be this loud. I got 2 videos so was wondering if anyone could take a look and let me know if it's supposed to be this loud. I know it's got 2 fans and my old 2.0 petrol only had one so it's probably supposed to be louder but....it drowns out the sound of the engine at the front. :(

Just wanted to get a second opinion before I buy a new radiator fan. They're probably quite expensive!

The temps are fine, the gauge seems to usually sit a little lower than my old 2.0 petrol does once warmed up. The dial tends to sit at 11 o clock position. I'd been idling for maybe 2 mins at that point, ambient temp 6C.

edit: Wonder if the two are connected. Could there be something up with the thermostat where it's making the fans run hard to keep the engine at 80ish degrees when 90 would do, resulting in tons of fan noise?

do you know how easy it is to remove and check? very...no tools required, you pull it off from behind the upper inlet manifold (just behind the top part of the engine), then pull the other end out from the right hand side of engine (you just need to remove the plastic engine cover to get to this part).

Yeah I was curious how hard it might be... One end is accessible but I wasn't sure where the other end went lol

I've been offered a 5 series as a company car by work. It's pretty tempting given I'm driving many more miles now. If I sell the ST220 I'll miss it like anything, it's such a great all-rounder.

So was driving my st220 to a mates house last week and realised no hot air was comming from the heaters, looked down at temp gauge and it was in the red!!.

Pulled over and let the car cool for 15 minutes but i really couldn't stay where i was, risked driving it a mile to my mates praying the head doesn't go but at this point i already thought it had.

When i got to my mates i poped the bonnet and realised it had no coolant!!. Wtf.

At this point i put some water in and left it to cool.

While i was at my mates looked online for common leak problems and someone mentioned his did the same thing, over heated but had no hot air from heaters and turned out to be his thermostat had gone.

The next day i bought a thermostat and when i went to fit it, took the cover off and seen bloody water pump belt had shredded itself!.

Thats what was the underline problem, so went to euro car parts and ordered a belt, got the belt on monday and the sod didn't fit, they swapped it for another belt which again didn't fit.
About to give up and just buy a dealer part they asked me to try a ford cougar belt which did actually fit.

Lucky the car didn't blow the head but while over heating it did lose quite a lot of oil and coolant which now have been topped up and the coolant replaced.

Phew...

I had a coolant leak too a few months back which required a new thermostat housing to fix. It was a strange leak as I would top the coolant up to max line and in a very short time it'd be just below the min line, but then wouldn't really drop much beyond that.

I really should check the various fluid levels more often but... it's cold outside

Drove 100 miles home last night from Perth to Inverness. Got 35mpg over 100 miles.

Notbad.jpg

In a ST220  what were u doing 50mph in 6th all the way? :p
I'm on the motorway every day and it's never got above 26mpg in fact it keeps going down a lot lately I'm on 25mpg but I do like to change gear at 6k rpm :D

Managed 33mpg yesterday is heavy rain over 140miles (newcastle to manchester) at speeds of 60-70.

In the summer i managed 36 with cruise set to 70.

(St220)

If you cant get over 26 i think something is wrong.

35-37 MPG is achievable on a motorway run at the speed limit. Obviously if there's traffic and you're accelerating to overtake etc, then the MPG will take a hit.

No one usually believes me though, just like no one believed me when I said 40 odd PSI was appropriate for the front tyres :p

mine is in for some work today.

Suspension (yeah i never bothered :p), rear sub bushes, tyres and a full check over to see if anything else needs doing.

Costing me a small fortune.

just seen one of my jacking point covers is missing, stupid rain xD

Anyone know places to get the jacking point covers for these cheap as mine looks odd with only having 1 left now and all I see on ebay is plain plastic covers that will need painting to whatever colour your car is which results in stupid amount of £'s.
I don't see how they just fall off as when I tried to remove my 1 cover its held on solidly by like a wire looking attachment on one side

Buy some paint from Ford and paint them, the cans they supply last a good round of jacking covers and then some, and useful for touch ups too!
