Who owns a Mondeo ST220 / ST TDCI?

torque= acceleration power=top speed.p

It's not that simple.

Torque is the twisting force that an engine produces. When you introduce RPMs into the mix, horsepower is created. High torque at low RPMs requires different gearing, which will affect acceleration. More power over a wider rev range will generally produce better acceleration, when all other factors are at least very similar.

The diesel might be able to provide more torque to the wheels at 50mph in 5th gear allowing it to accelerate faster to 70mph than the petrol version for example, but this isn't so relevant when the other car is allowed to change gear.

I considered all of those cars and similar when I replaced my ST220, but nothing in my budget really grabbed me as much as my current Mondeo.

Mine's a Titanium X Sport so it has slightly lower stiffer suspension than the non-Sport models but you don't lose much from the mk3 in terms of the way it drives. You mustn't forget it's a bigger, heavier car but the steering is still wonderfully direct and the suspension very nicely balanced, and I tend to notice it after driving many different modern cars.

Nothing problematic about the keyless start.

Find a nice well-specced 2.5T Titanium X Sport and I reckon you'll rather like it.

It's just a chunky back box I think.

That one however is only a naturally aspirated 2.0 petrol and it's not quick at all. So probably not what you're looking for?!

The 2.5Ts do crop up, just have to be a bit patient.

I'm confused as to what happened - did you swing out right before turning left? Can't imagine how someone could hit you side on like that on a normal single lane road

It's amazing how many particular relatively modern cars seem to succumb to rust whilst so many don't - you tend to think of it as a notion left behind in the 80s.

Not sure it's worth it for a prefacelift when you may as well take the money (not to mention the time) you'd spend on fixing it and buying a working one.

The 2014 maps don't have TMC but I can't speak for the 2015. Although if the poster above is right, maybe they've re-included it! I will investigate more I think.

Why did they remove it?

Because TMC is a licensed service which the manufacturers who make use of it must pay for (throughout Europe, not just in the UK); Ford apparently decided it wasn't 'worth' paying for UK functionality on the later map discs (or at least the 2014 release), lest the prices of the updates increase drastically, since sales of the update discs in the UK are pretty low.

I would have thought the functionality was permanently built in to the Ford nav system's firmware and not something which is simply activated by the navigation map disc, but there you go.

It sounds a bit ridiculous, but that's what I was told by multiple sources when I investigated, including Ford themselves! I managed to get a goodwill voucher out of them to go towards my prior purchase of the 2014 disc (which I did manage to sell on, and I bought a 2013 disc - I decided TMC was more useful than the 1-in-10000 chance I'd come across an unmapped road).

It is. Bit fiddly but doable. You can just about reach it from underneath but you'll need to at least peel back some of the arch liner. I had to fix a slightly leaky pipe by doing the same.

JP exhaust's never seem to update their website as they have been mentioning a special deal on their Mondeo exhausts for like a year now. When I enquired they quoted me £500 ish which I believe is their usual price? Got my eye on a JP exhaust for the ST if they go on sale in the New Year. JP don't seem to update their website much (although they have updated the frontpage to mention how long they're closed for over the festive period), so is there any way to know when they have a sale on other than phoning them up?

My ST has also started making a funny noise today which I have a video clip of if it helps. It's a groaning noise that only happens at idle and not under load. The moment you blip the throttle it goes away only to return once the revs settle. You can hear it groaning a little at the start of the video clip, die away when the throttle is blipped and then return when it settles back into an idle.

Any ideas? :(

Idle air control valve, most probably.
