Who's in to electric RC cars?

I have a Mardave V10 that I haven't used for years. I needs a little TLC, but it goes like stink!

I upgraded it with various parts from the Mardave catalogue, but can't remember exacly what (apart from the rear axle bushes were swapped out for ball-race bearings).

All my friends had Tamiyas - my Mardave was about twice as fast. :D

Not really into leccy so I only have one :)
Currently residing in my RC garage;-

HPI RS4, leccy,
HPI MT2, nitro,
GS Storm, nitro
Losi 8ight T 1.0, nitro
Losi 8ight B 2.0. nitro

The 8ight T has been almost converted to 2.0 spec with just suspension to change.

Right big thread bump :D

Recently dug my cars out of storage and decided to get them up and running (also picked up a Brushless XTM Rage which is rather fun :p).

My little TLT-1 posted many years ago in this thread has fried electrics, I've got some new servos on order but what I need is a new ESC. I've been looking on various sites/forums for info but so much seems to have changed in the last few year (brushless, lipos etc). Therefore can anyone recommend a cheap and cheerful forward/reverse ESC that would work with a 27T motor?

Cheers.

Novak GTB, Nosram, LRP, Tekin,

If you're going racing off road, check out the Cougar SV or the soon to be released Losi 22 - http://www.neobuggy.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=9399

I've currently got

Kyosho Lazer FS - up for sale
Tamiya 511
Team Durango 410R
Schumacher Cougar SV
Losi XXCR Kinwald.

Hoping to race the 511 at the Petit RC event in Jan with the Durango as backup for 4WD.

Head over to www.oople.com/forums and post a wanted in the trade section. Lots of helpful people on there ;)

I may have a Nosram brushed ESC, but had planned to put it in the XXCR after putting my brushless into another car.

Marc at MK Racing is v helpful too.

What servos did you go for, Savox? I'd just head to brushless as it's cheaper and easier than brushed in the longer term

Sorry dude, but electrics are rubbish!!

I used to race a V1-RRR with a Novarossi Race 353. Was rapiiiiiid in the extreme.

Brushless is getting closer mind, but you still get rubbish run time.

Andd..... nowt beats the smell of NITRO!

MMmmm! miss those days, but RC racing is dyign a death in the UK now.
:((((

brushless ones can out run nitros and with lipo batterys they get awesome run times.

I don't know if I have a whole car any more. At the time of the original post I did have a Mardave Ministock with a longer chassis and an A Team van body. Naturally, because I built it in the 90's it had a 90's paint job :D

Also had a Tamiya Grasshopper wearing a baha bug body and a Ministock chassis that I'd converted to take a nitro engine, an OS CZ11 which is way old school these days but was the daddy back then.

I used to share the running gear between them which was a 7.2V nicad hump back battery (standard fit in the Tamiya buggies and fit across the narrow chassis in the Ministock), electronic speed controller and 17-turn double motor with wet magnets. That sucker was the shiznet back then and used to split the cheap crap gearboxes open in the Tamiya cars, but probably not a patch on today's brushless motors.

Another necro-bump!

A sudden urge to look up RC drifting on YouTube, and a subsequent discussion with my GF over the weekend has prompted me to dig my old Traxxas 4-Tec #4301 out of the loft!

It's quite a few years old, and is in need of (at the very least) a new front bumper, as the current one doesn't hold the body on in the right place, and it also needs a new body as the one that's on there is rather damaged (and is still the original Vauxhall Calibra shell!), but the biggest annoyance is that there's no batteries or charger - not even something I can shove a couple of volts into just to try!

So - I'll be needing an, I assume, 7.2v pack and a charger as a starter to get me going?

I've got a GWS Navigator F112R56 electronic speed controller, which from what I can remember does forward/brake/reverse, and it's got it's original Stinger 20T brushed motor.

My Current collection is:
Traxxas ERBE
Traxxas Slash 4x4 ultimate
Traxxas Ken Block vxl
HPI Recon
Losi High Roller

I would also like to convert a Baja with a castle setup. And get a decent Crawler. Plus maybe a touring car of some sorts then I will have the full package :-)

@Confused You can pick up a 7.2 battery and charger for not much nowadays, under £40 if you shop around.

I've got far too many cars for my own good, all but one are electric. The lone nitro that i own is a Mugen MBX6T truggy and i've just started racing with it. It's definitely a different learning curve to what i'm used too. It's addictive though, i can see myself getting a 1/8 buggy to go with the truggy

It's seriously been years! Any specifics I could look at or suggested suppliers?

I'm guessing higher mAh means longer run-time but also longer to recharge?

Used to have a modded Kyosho with a Tamiya frog body and some high revving 540 on it, it gone run over by a motorbike and I sold of the remains - Still think about starting again but am far too busy :(

Edit: All I remember is burning my fingertips on the resistors!!

Head over to www.modelsport.co.uk, they have a lot of good stuff over there. Here's some good packs and I recommend this charger. You can select the charging rate.
You're spot on with the higher mAh, it's one of the downsides of larger capacity batteries.

Cheers for the links!

It's a difficult decision, 3300mAh or 4300mAh for a couple of quid more each, but it's then weighing up the charge/use times!

I think I'd rather have them last longer than recharge quicker...

My oooold NiCd packs I did have were around 1800mAh, so any of these are going to last much better anyway compared to what I remember :)

The best and cheapest place for batterys is Hobbyking and if you order from there german warehouse its normally only 3-7 day delivery. You could get a decent lipo battery and lipo cut-off for probably under £15 from there inc delivery. I have 4x 2s lipo 2200mah batteries for my Traxxas Ken Block drifter which will last a total of 3-4 hours. Hobbyking also have some good chargers. The charger I got from there can charge 4 batteries at once at upto 5a, So takes around 30-40 minutes to charge 4 batteries.

Used to have one years ago, and have recently been thinking of getting one again. It looks like a lot of them come rtr nowdays, building it myself was half the fun. So I've been looking at ones that come in kits, the hpi cup racers look good, anyone have one of these?

Well that's my Christmas money spent!

2x HPI Plazma 3300mAh NiMh battery packs
1x Fusion Vector NX85 charger
2x HPI TE37 Wheel 26mm White (6mm offset)
2x HPI T-drift Tire 26mm
1x Traxxas front bumper
1x Losi body clips
1x Traxxas body washers
1x HPI Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X body (200mm)

So that little lot should be arriving tomorrow with any luck :)
