Whos thinking of sticking with what theyve got and bypassing the "next gen" cards??

Nah i'm happy with what i have got, i want at least another year out my system however thinkign of gettign a 3rd graphic card for tri sli as i think prices will come down a lot once the new cards are out.
 
running an 8800gts 512mb its still fine on a 24 inch monitor
unless the games im playing start to suffer ill not bother
(then again the upgrade bug might kick in:p)
 
Happy with my 4890 for a while - gaming at 1680x1050.

The 5850/5870 sound like great cards but I don't think you should have to pay more than about £150 to get a decent card (at my resolutions anyway).

Will happily be waiting for a bit more competition from Nvidia and to see where DX11 goes...
 
I'm waiting to see what nvidia brings to the table, the custom designs and the inevitable price drops. I barely game on the PC anymore so my 8800GTS is fine for now.
 
Currently have a 1GB 4870, i think i will be sticking with what i have, my money for my PC will be going towards, storage, better cooling and possibly an SSD or two. Right now my PC is the least of my priorities, looking to fix up my room! However, when these get as cheap as £150 or so and i have some spare cash sitting there i might pick one up.... or wait for the 5890.
 
Im Running a 4870 512mb & cant decide wether if its worth getting another 4870 on the cheap as they are bound to come down in price again soon & Crossfire then wait it out for the 68** series which is probably only a year away, Or save up and upgrade to one 5870 soonish.

You need to add the 8800 GTX to that list and IMHO this should sit right at the top.

The 58xx could join that list when we get some indication of performance in DX11. After all it is the first DX11 card that also performs great in 10 & 9. Reminds me of the 8800 GTX.

I think in order it would be:

3dfx Voodoo 1
Geforce 8800GTX
Radeon 9700 Pro
Geforce 256

The HD5870 could join this list, in time.

Voodoo 1 was pretty short lived. The GTX on the other hand is still going strong and holding its own how many years down the line?? To me this is what makes the GTX such a great card.

Yes but the Voodoo 1 transformed PC graphics overnight and made the biggest difference ever to the quality of PC in-game graphics. I still rate the 8800GTX as the best card I've ever owned though.

The 8800GTX was and still is an amazing card, it's crazy to think they still run most games maxed out even today fine.

I was really tempted to order the 5870 on the day of release, but I managed to resist it..

I'm still thinking about getting one, but I will more than likely wait to see what the next gen nvidia cards will be like first before I buy another card.
 
Sticking with my 4870x2 as it's still up there with the 5870 in quite a few of the benchies, although once drivers mature I'm sure the 5870 will pull away, but for the money all I'd benefit from would be dx11 support and lower power consumption... a no brainer for me really. Gonna wait and see what NV's response is, also what the 5870x2 is like, so maybe in 6 - 12 months time I'll think about an upgrade.
