I can’t see me wanting to upgrade from the 4090, I’d probably lose too much in resale value to make it worthwhile getting a 5090 and my 1080ti lasted me so many years I’ll probably just stick with what I have for the long haul unless I build another rig.

Same here. I said to myself the 4090 would be a long haul purchase so I'm sticking with that.

I only buy the FE versions now so yes to an RTX 5090 assuming all the design they've done actually translates to decent temps.

The RTX 4080 FE cooler is OTT and has only hit 60C on very hot days.

or lower temps ,quieter cooling, less chance of coil whine with some brands, better aesthetics and maybe a better warranty.

The fe cards have been brilliant past gen, amongst the best, along with the top MSI and Asus. Same for the PCB internals. The 4090 fe is very quiet, but the best AIBs do have an edge there. Warranty I think they are all as good/bad as each other.

Honestly there isn't much in it other than what deidgn you prefer and then you've got to ask yourself is it worth that much more.

along with the top MSI
MSI were on of the worst for coil whine last gen.

there was some german forum where someone was keeping track of users experience from that forum

it was like like 38/40 msi cards had coil whine, the other 2 probably just couldn't hear it.

I think zoltac were one of the better ones

Yeah coil whine was all over at the start of last Gen. Zotac and Gigabyte was better but Zotac used less capacitors (but had dodgy ball bearing fans that rattled) and Gigabyte went to town on Thermal pads to mitigate issues. They all (certainly MSI and Asus) had revisions that fixed this. I'm hoping it's not going to be as common this generation because of all the returns/complaints. If we're paying a premium price, we expect a premium product.

Sure I remember the strix model being £2,350 at some points during it life cycle

Is the pound stronger now to the dollar? I remember that been a big factor last time. Estimated prices kept going up and up weekly, as the pound fell.

FE is always going to be naturally the hardest to get so personally thats why i always go the AIB route and mid range price of the 90's cards as i assume again naturally people will be drawn to the cheapest so they sell out rather quickly.

As i said in another thread a day or so before the release last time with the 4000 series, Gibbo from Overclockers did a post of what was in stock and whether it had a high or low volume so maybe they will do one this time as well... but prices are not shown until launch time.
