Why are Evri are so absolutely abysmal?

I've had no issues with Hermes/Evri over the last couple of years but I sent a router a couple of weeks ago and it was tracked up to the the delivery depot and then no updates after that. I raised a ticket asking where it was and 4 days later I got a response saying a query has been raised with the delivery depot. I don't have much hope of the router being found and have had to refund the buyer.
I thought you were going to say Virgin Media then as that's their courier to return gear. I didn't have high hopes but a week after dropping off VM confirmed they got it back yesterday.

Only issue I've ever had with them was when my normal driver was off for a couple of weeks and the cover driver delivered a parcel to the back garden of some house down the street. It then took the people that live there 6 weeks to come to the door with the opened parcel and a "Oh sorry thought it was for us" or more likely given the time frame "I've got no idea what this is so it's not worth keeping".

To be honest most of the delivery services round here are pretty solid.... hell I can usually estimate what time I'll be getting stuff based on who is delivering it, apart from amazon who seem all over the place.

Only issue I have with evri is the local store for returns is 10mins away and in a stupid place where you struggle to park up, mind you the parking thing wouldn't be any better in my village either...

Really, the only courier I have an issue with is one particular driver from Amazon who I've seen knock once at the door, wait 0.1s then dump the the parcel on the doorstep, regardless if there's an answer or not.

Locally for me they have been really good and locally for me DHL (local not national) are absolute ********, who I believe were UK Mail, before being bought by DHL.

Neighbour knocked on earlier asking if I'd had a parcel delivered here for her. Told her I hadn't as I haven't been in most of the day. Just spoken to her a few minutes ago, apparently she's had a look at a neighbour's CCTV and it turned out the delivery driver didn't even bother to knock on and just left her package on the pavement. After it had been kicked a few times by schoolkids some woman picked it up and had it away.

Why do you need to greet your delivery driver lol?

Our local delivery driver is good.

If the doors not locked she lets herself in to put it in the hallway.

If you leave windows open she will post through them if the doors locked.

Other than that. My only issue has been at the hub where my steamdeck went missing, it was out for next day delivery for a ten days or so.

Worked for Hermes (now Evri) for 18 months as a depot manager over lockdown everything is about cost

Customers as a whole want cheap or free shipping so retailers will always go down the cheap option. Generally during my time outside of peak(dec) we were hitting 99.7/8% of parcels getting delivered same day they hit the local delivery unit(depot). Top tip Evri do not distinguish between next day and 2/3 day services the couriers are expected to deliver them all the same day they land in the local DU
