Why do peopel debadge cars?

Its common around here to see debadged cars. I always assumed the owner must be too embarrased to own up to having that make of car and debadging it was a way to hide it at a glance. Didn't realise people did it for other reasons!

It's a common thing for people to debadge a car to reinact other modded cars. My mate and I both have Honda Civics, only difference is he's added a full body kit, debadged it and given it a a few vinyls. He pleaded with me to debadge mine but I wasn't having none of it.

Stupid boy racers. ;)

Some big generalisations here, not all debadging is "boy racer"

Well as i'm the only one in the thread to mention "boy racer," i'll take that you were referring to my comments about my mate. He's a boy racer, he even admits it, so I don't feel I was generalising as such.

As for your car, as nice as it *does* look, I just find cars all look the same due to being debadged. Cars with their badges are in my view unique to their manufacturer and therefore unique in their own right. Just my opinion.

^ That looks much better :) Decluttered, but the subaru badge avoids it being overly plain. But if you went one step further ...

Sorry, but that looks dire :o

You say it looks clean, but then you put horrible clear rear lights on it, which just look cluttered. Now it just looks very bland and cheap imo.

I've only removed the GTI-6 badge from my Pug 306. GTI badges can attract un wanted attention and I also like the stealth approach. Not too many are clued up about the GTI-6 especially a lot of BMW drivers :p Given many of them puzzled look :D

I dont think I'd like mine if all the badges were removed though for reason said that it would just look too plain.

In general, golfs do look a lot better when they have been debadged, however, most people keep the VW badge on the back, it breaks up that area and just looks miles better.

If someone could photoshop a VW badge onto that and put in some decent lights :p it would look better.

I've not got the 1.6 badge on the back of my Gizzolf, but I didn't do that I think it was a factory option as i've seen others with the same.

I have GTI lights too so people obvs fink it's a GT"aiiiii" tho, witch iz wikkid.

looks boy racer to me, makes me think you have a serious case of turbo envy

I have never seen the point of a suburu sport, you get all the bad points of the impreza (bad interior, not that refined, image) with none of the good points (ie its the quickist thing for £20kish new, well i think it was 2000).

Also why all people with "slow" performancesq cars think they turn into a rocketship in the twisties?

I debadged my Focus (left the Ford logo on). I personally much prefer the look on some cars. At the end of the day, the badge is free advertising for the company. For both cars I've had, it came off the same day as the vinyl sticker in the boot window and the garage branded tax disc holder.

I'm so far from the boy racer stereotype it's untrue, I have infact replaced bits with OEM parts since I've had it (note the removal of chavvy M3 style mirrors) and am going to be replacing the 17"s with some more reserved Peugeot 16"s next month. I'm not going to defend my decision to debadge it as it was my decision, I don't give a monkeys what anyone else thinks about it :)

I bought the car as it was black (my favourite colour) had recently had an engine rebuild (with receipts) and was exactly what I was looking for as far as it went mechanically (and close aesthetically) :)

I dont think any of the boy racer comments were aimed at you. All I said was it made the car look dated. ie it looks like the older 306 model now.

your braver than me removing badges from french and italian cars, i thought they were key structural components and the grounding point for the electrics?
