he's not the only one, my mum's had the same with the pre-lightning cables, and of all my freinds who use apple devies i've yet to see a cable more than 6 months old that didn't look terrible.
the only conclusion is the cables are bad or apple owners don't look after their stuff
I'm afraid the experience is the same here. My girlfriend has always had an iPhone, and she seems to need to replace charging cables on a regular basis. She doesn't mistreat it that I can see - plugs it in, and that's about it. Yet they don't take long to start fraying to the point where the cable itself is exposed.
The thing is, this wouldn't be quite so annoying if replacement cables weren't so expensive. This is what annoys me more than anything - Apple's insistence on using their own proprietary cables, chargers, etc, rather than just adopting a standard that everyone uses like micro USB, or now, USB-C. Even if a micro USB cable is no more durable (even though anecdotally, they do seem to be), the fact that pretty much every other personal electronic device uses them means that most people will have at least one spare lying around they can use. Rather than having to shell out for an overpriced lightning cable that can only be used for iPhones/iPads. I just checked on Apple store - £19 for a genuine 1 metre lightning cable! I know it's a stroke of marketing genius, because people seemingly seem to ignore stuff like that just because it's Apple, but it really puts me off buying their products.
Hi. It's Friday. I feel like moaning.
I have an old Ipad 2 from yonks ago, it was my wife's but I've adopted it for matched betting purposes. I have had an inherent hatred for Apple since forever, but my wife loves them so meh. So I've got this old ipad and I need to be able to receive texts on it.
There's going to be an ipad shaped hole in the window here very soon, I can feel it already.
Please abstain from bringing logic in to this thread. I want to be unreasonable and I feel like moaning so I'm not going to sign up for an Apple id.
OP shouldn't be allowed on the Internet.
Why do you give the internet a capital i?

Fine
Far easier just to make an account mind but as you say can be done.
Agree on the cables, ridiculous why they always use non industry standard connections. Even the third party cheap ones cost loads more than say a micro USB cable and reading the reviews apparently your phone will moan at you for having the audacity to use something not made by Apple.
Don't use apple products myself but they are a bit more parent friendly and less likely to be affected by malware due to the checks they do on apps.
I thought Apple stuff just worked out the box and was flawless in every way.
Because the Internet should be spelt with a capital. A five second Google could have told you that.

The outer sheathing Apple use is pretty poor on all their products. Soft touch and easy flex but doesn't last very long.
Simpler solution is just buy a cheap Amazon basics cable when the OEMncable finally dies.
In this case it appears it's more that he's bought a car and is trying to work out why it doesn't float when he tries to take it on the river...
Disagree with this entirely. You are right about corporate networks avoiding their hardware but it's mostly because their IT department don't have the same depth of knowledge with the OS and thus blame the machines for their downfalls. They make things look shiny, but they are terrible at actually making OSs and other systems. You quickly realise that when your having to do more than just play with "apps".
