Why GPU prices are NOT likely to drop significantly EVER!

All the 3060 3070ti / 3080ti are LHR but not marked as so since there was never a non LHR version, the 3060tis OCUK had deals on yesterday were also LHR versions.

A lot of the cards coming through are LHR including the recent OCUK deals so I doubt miners are interested.

That's it, miners want the non LHR versions to mine. And mining was banned in China so they are not buying up all the stock there too.

The Ti cards are LHR cards. I think the 3060/Ti can't even mine out of the box it needs some special software. Not sure tbh.

I'm thinking about just forgetting about 6000/3000 series and mothballing by PC until the 4000 series and sell the Series X around then. My concern is a 3700X CPU and 3200MHz ram (32GB) coming into 2022. Hoping it would not be a bottleneck at 4k by then.
Doubtful imo. I recently replaced my 2700x & 16gb's of 3200mhz ram for a 5800x & 32gb's of 3200mhz ram on the same X470 platform which I'm hoping will be perfectly capable for 5 or so years. I'm thinking I'll also skip upgrading my current 5700 GPU & wait to see what the next range models offer, This gen's pricing's really peeved me off & if I've learnt one thing from this year it's that I don't need to upgrade my GPU so often.

Ok boomer.

there is only one thing that will stop prices for everything all over the world going up.

do you know what it is? It's called printing. When governments stop printing money

Governments won't stop printing, the working class and rich who benefit from the handouts would hang the central bank chiefs by the toe nails if that happened!
Everyone wants free money!

Stopping the printing won't really effect the commodity shortages, we are getting a commodity shortage driven inflation, the money printing is adding a tail wind onto this depending how fast a currency is debased. There are almost 8 billion people out there!

That wasn't even the bold claim. He said the global financial markets will collapse and we'll all experience hyperinflation, this year!

Hyperinflation arrives a bit later!
We're starting to get big inflation like we haven't seen for around 50 years in the west.
There will likely be 3 phases and we're in the first right now then we move onto the next, each being higher.

Okay an UPDATE:

GPU Prices-
3090 £1800
3080ti £1400
6900xt £1500
3080 £1200
6800xt £1000
3070ti £870
6700xt £700
3060ti £600
3060 £550
6600xt £420

These are the lowest prices I found so average prices are higher.
GPU prices NO real change.

I believe we're in the first wave of inflation 2 more ahead with a small dip back after each one so you're looking at even HIGHER prices going forwards.

The 3090 is around £2000 at street prices which is crazy! Either the price is high OR your pound has SUDDENLY lost purchasing power sort of like instant inflation!

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is now at 35,515.38 which is also crazy! This is NOT going to keep going on for much longer!

The price of tin hits another record!

The price of beef, pork and poultry are all at crazy high prices! The shops don't don't seem to be passing this onto us but hey will have to at some point!

FASTEN THOSE SEAT BELTS PEOPLE ONLY JUST OVER 4 MONTHS TILL THE END OF THE YEAR! :D

Second hand prices have dropped (you can buy a newly scalped 3060ti for 540 at auction now), no point in looking at shelves of overpriced GPU and saying prices aren't changing, those prices will change when AIB's start offering rebates or incentives so retailers can drop prices as oppose to taking the loss themselves. Surely you've noticed the hundreds of 3060 Ti sold on OCuk at damn near MSRP over the past month.. new cards coming in from AIB's.. not scalper prices but reasonably overpriced :p

I have been tracking 3080 prices in the UK for over a month now, and on a daily basis. Having just picked one up for £935, I have to disagree here. At all times in the past month there have been 3080s available for £1,099, and in the past week there has been 3080s available for £999. If you check every few days on Google, you will find the occasional listing for £950. These are all new, and not necessarily LHR cards either. I'm even sure I seen 3080s in stock with OCUK for £1,099 last week as well.

Don't get me wrong, the prices are still high and that's not ideal, but to say that there has been no real change is not correct (at least with regard to the 3080). Back in September 2020 I had budgeted £700 to £800 for an AIB 3080 card, and having cards south of the £1k mark is somewhat of a milestone I think and not unreasonable for those looking a new card, particularly when you factor in that the resale value of your old card has also went up. For example, I effectively paid avg. £200 more for my 3080 than I planned for in September 2020, but I also got £150 more for my 2080 Super than I expected based on the resale prices in place at September 2020 - all in all, I am out of pocket £50 more than I expected, but I am happy to incur that cost given where the market is and where it has been, plus factoring in my desire to benefit from the extra performance for upcoming titles I want to play (e.g. BF2042). For me, it is important to consider what you actually want to do with the card and the value it brings in having it sooner rather than later; a 3080 at MSRP isn't necessarily better if you aren't going to be playing many demanding games at the future date you buy it on.

You clearly ain’t looking at OcUK as several of those GPUs even in stock all weekend at lower prices. ;)

Hi everybody,
I thought I would put in a post of why inflation is going to keep up and create a new normal in the world.
I know lots of you are sitting on the side lines waiting for a big drop in GPU prices before buying but the days of getting a decent GPU for £500 or £700 are well gone, expect to pay £1k+ for decent and £2k+ for top end.

1. inflation isn't something that just goes up a few points per year when it really appears there is a huge
surge which goes on and on

2. the commodities upcycle is only getting started=inflation

3. the US has trillions in debt, they don't have the money to pay bond holders so the fed and treasury will keep interest rates down and inflate their dollar to try and inflate away the debt=inflation.
Once inflation appears and surges like you seeing now they are *NOT* going to raise interest rates to combat it but keep inflation running high which is in their interests! (and what do you think BOE will do here in the UK!) what you'll get in a short space of time is a currency devaluation not just US/UK but globally.

4. You may know I'm predicting all 3 major US stock markets to go over finally during the last few months of this year. Now this will be the first of the major bubbles to pop followed by the housing bubble a bit later. As the huge bubbles pop you're going to get more currency devaluation=inflation!

5. GPU shortages/prices are just the tip of the iceberg, once you see the surge of inflation go into food and everyday items then its time to be worried.

See what happens in a few months and Prepare for the biggest financial event of your lifetimes!

Regards, Harold

I'm sorry, but this is sub-sixth form economics drivel.

Meh.

I bought a new 3070 for £470.

Always add 20% to the US MSRP because of VAT, after currency conversion.

This used to be a good rule of thumb but President Trump brought in extra tax on a gpu made in China and sold in USA. They then pay state sales tax on top, so tax on a gpu in the USA is now usually higher than we pay (although usually prices in the USA are without state sales tax displayed and so need to be added in)
