Why is AMD quiet about black screens on 290x?

never had a problem with my 290x other than a bit of coil whine which seems to have fixed itself now. no black screen or anything. Infact this is the first card that i bought at launch that has little to no issues.... Nvidia are always aweful with their launch cards

Not sure i found the same problem i think when i tried it once. Disabling powerplay support should leave the card in 3d mode so im surprised that does not help. Did you restart the pc after making the change?

Applying the 2d profile (Stock settings) and the card will go into 300/1250. If i apply my 3d profile it'll do 1180/1500 and not drop.

Use AMD Cleanup tool, reinstall drivers and reinstall afterburner maybe?

I have done this so many times. Its one of three: 1. Faulty card. 2. Bad voltage control in current oc programs. 3. Driver issue.

Running stock or even 1100/1450 is no problem for me either. Its once i start overvolting (I dont even have to overclock) i get issues.

This black screen issue with my card is present at stock settings, with either the drivers that came with the card or the new beta driver, generally after a hard reset the black screen is "gone", however the next cold boot it will be back. Happens either playing BF4 or Wot atm, not tried any other games as of yet.

This is a description of the problem I have, and the problem that people in the forum posts i linked to have.

If it happened at stock levels the response would probably be more urgent.

Might just have a lemon clocker

Agreed.

A card is not guaranteed to overclock and if it runs at stock clocks with no issue, then you have no grounds to return it. Sure you can be fed up and disappointed but this is the chip lottery.

You say it runs fine until you add more volts. Then don't add more volts and leave them as they are.

He means; its just tapped out about 1150, it won't do 1200.......

Which bios are you running on the card? I know Gibbo said once he flashed his non asus cards to asus bios they oc a lot better.

For the last time. The card will OVERCLOCK just fine, but im getting a black screen when i overvolt too much, and it helps to run 60hz, no idea why. (It doesnt crash just output disconnection)

Lol. Can't remember the last time i saw you with a poor clocker Gregos. ;) :p

Say it one more time for me because I'm confused ... so its fine at stock or when you overclock but it only becomes a problem when you add volts? Or do I misunderstand?

Just to clarify does running at 60hz stop the black screens or just turn crashes into output disconnects instead?

It stops the blackscreening to a certain degree, but if i overvolt more its back to black screens. and yes, its as if someone disconnected my DVI.
