Why the Wii needs to fail!

Good.

Excessive focus on graphics and spiralling console specifications will ruin the games industry if they continue. I'll put it into simple maths because I'm supposed to be going out, and I can't be bothered to spend ages forming a full, coherent argument.

Push for better graphics = longer times required to develop games = higher costs involved = less risks taken = less imagination put into games.

It really is that simple.

ontop of expensive consoles, power consumption, noisey consoles, failure associated with high end component heat damage etcccc

I'd love to join in this thread. It looks meaty. But I haven't a clue where it started or where it's going! :p

Sad life? Isn't it Friday night in England and who's at home festering on his computer ?????

Says it all really.

im not at home actually, im waiting for my lift which has been delayed but is due any moment, then its off to the chinese and home to see the family..
that says more tbh :)

The Wii is on a lot more in my house than the PS3. Maybe not as long sessions, but certainly more of them.

Wish I hadn't bought the extra games with it though. Wii sports and investing in controllers is the way to go :)

Woo for Nintendo :)

FYI, I own a Wii (my only "this generation" console), and think it's amazing - both for games like Wii Sports, and for the "proper" games like Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Metroid etc. I need more than 2 Wii Remotes though :p

If there's one thing to worry Nintendo, it's the combination of the Playstation brand + price drops + Wii shortages. This has shown recently in both US and Japan sales numbers that the PS3 is far from dead. When killer titles for the PS3 come out like GTA, Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Solid then those will shift a load of consoles just like Wii Sports and now Super Mario Galaxy are doing for the Wii.

gta is xbox too. not so sure the other 2 alone could do it. thought by then they will probably be a few gems no1 expected. who cares really!

All this serious gaming does sound a bit boring.

And anyway, it's hardly Nintendo's fault if Joe Public prefers Brain Training to Bioshock.
And who can blame the public for being jaded by Old Game + Graphics upgrade = Next Gen?

indeed, serious gamers are a bit sad if they dont like wiis, im sorry but theres a reason its sold more and thats cos most people find it more fun.
Its supposed to be entertainment after all.
Nobody gives a rats about whos gamerscore is biggest, theyd must rather parade their miis with there friends and have a laugh.
There is room for the 3, and theres room in market for all the types of games.

I've been bored with the gaming market for years. Like many of you i've been gaming since the days of the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum (since I was 5 years old). There's nothing new anymore, people keeping going on about this game and that but its all just the same as ever. I've been looking for something new for a loooooooong time... and thats the reason i'm choosing to get a Wii over the PS3 or 360. Neither of the latter for me has anything worth investing in, apart from hardware and if i'm buying a console for hardware, i'm buying it for the wrong reason. The Wii for me is a triumph in what is quite frankly a very dull and drab console market.

However every is entitled to their opinions. Each to their own...
