Wildstar New MMO (NCSoft and Carbine Studios)

Keeping an eye on this one myself also - a deal clincher for me will be how much of the game is instanced. So far the housing and paths are by the looks of it, which I dislike already.

I can understand that instanced content is easier on severs etc, but the whole "personal" aspect is a massive cop-out I feel. To me the fundamental idea of "MMO" was always that games were getting bigger/more collaborative, with more community interaction - but newer MMOs are feeling smaller with your own isolated content. Give me an MMO where you'll build towns with people and fight for land any day, enough of the battlegrounds, instances and instanced housing.

How can paths possible be instanced, I wish people would at least know that they typing before they type it. paths are what you choose your character to be I.E either a explorer. or a settler.

On the whole I like some things about the game, some things kinda worry me but we will see.

The paths give you additional "missions"/activities based on what you choose, a lot of which just involve you/your party. For instance an explorer can find secret locations, which will be an instanced event for you/your party etc.

ncsoft pop out a new mmo every few months its pretty ridiculous. No point playing a game that you know will just fizzle out because they are working on another to release in a couple months time.

It's not instanced it's just only explorers can access them, so if you go into a secret area there will be other people there but only if they are the same path as your character.

wrong!

This again, wish people knew what they were saying!

Open world housing, proper open world housing, is houses out in the adventuring environment. As far as I know SWG and Horizons are the only games that have ever managed it. Horizons had plots scattered around the landscape, and SWG just let you plonk down a house anywhere outside city limits on certain planets.

Housing in its own zone, or out on a island somewhere might as well be instanced.

Umm, Ultima online had housing out in the open long before..

Its pretty sad with how technology has grown, we still don't have a game out that can support this again, it would be a killer point in a game and if lag was kept down it would IMO have a huge following playerwise

I think physically mmo worlds have gotten smaller too, which doesn't help. I remember being able to tweak the ini file in Asheron's Call to up the draw distance to 10k, and the whole world seems enormous, mysterious and threatening.

I regularly got lost :)

They definitely have and what's also happened is the use of instance has gown so much now as its cheaper to have 10 of the same instance than one that can carry all the players, it worries me now when I see a game saying they have a seamless world, with no loading screens, is that just their way of saying we have a lot more instance of the same map :(

I'd rather maps were broken into 4 or even 6 if they were all of 1 instance!

Wildstar are looking for 40 man teams for beta tests of raids warplots etc, we have just set up a thread on our site to gather names for the list, not sure how many that signed up to us for other games in the past still want to join us, if interested get your name on that list ASAP, not sure how long or how many others are trying but I know quite a few are.

I'm pretty sure if I look at the numbers from swtor & GW2 we can easily put together 4 teams, so be quick if you keen, thread went up 10 minutes ago see http://www.mmo-guild.co.uk/addons/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?11567.last

Now have 21 names toward the 40, best get em in quick

Hi Nemeses

I put up an app to join as I would like to try this game out and its raiding! It sounds like I could experience my good old days of killing bosses in Naxx 40 :D

Forum post is under the name Chib.

Like wow.

I find it unreal that WoW still has the biggest, most seamless world out there despite the amount of MMO's that have been released since.

Really sad state of affairs that games that should be better (technology wise) have instead regressed. However when players accept lesser products its hard to see any reason for the emphasis to push it. Thats my biggest disappointment with gw2 the seperate zones everywhere.

By where WoW was years ago we really should have all MMO's offering fully seamless worlds but there seems to be no desire sadly. :(
