Will Smith hits Chris Rock on Oscars stage

No you are unfortunately, if you still believe this is fake.

Yep, will won an award that's why he was close to the stage - award nominees are always seated at the front so they can quickly get too the stage, viewers don't want to wait a whole minute while an award winner in the far back navigates to the stage so all possible winners are up front

If he agreed to do this voluntarily like some believe then he’s a proper idiot!

You honestly think somebody who has been around camera's and audiences all his working life has so little composure and presence of self that he just decides to wander on stage of a live performance infront of all his peers and esteemed colleagues as well as being watched by millions and assault the presenter in the most lame fashion ever?

Give the man some credit, he didn't get to where he is today by acting that impulsively and recklessly.

It was a deliberate act to give a bit of notoriety to the Oscars, raise both Will Smith's and Chris Rock's profile (they're aging 20th century icons), and act as a talking point so people are interested in the Oscars again, which frankly if things like this didn't happen would be boring and people wouldn't watch.

Where is the proof?

Oh right, he was sat at the front.

(everything else you said is just you are making up of things that will turn out positive for him, in an age where people get cancelled over a tweet they made a decade ago...you think this is a good idea? To take one for the team?)

Really? I know you are going to say yes...so

Where is the proof? besides he was sat with his back to a round table like everyone else.

Granted, that was my initial reaction, but everything that followed, which started with the immediate 2 x ******* bombs put that theory right out the window. Not to mention the laugh, because the laugh goes the opposite and completely opposite of what this wacky theory is suggesting.

Jim Carrey nails it right on the head. Of all the people who would have thought Jim Carrey in all this would be the voice of reason.

Bravo. The Hollywood glitterati are not the cool club anymore and it was a selfish act, which took away from an atmosphere of celebration from all the people who won an award.

The awards mean nothing to the normal person (certainly not to me anyway), but they obviously mean a lot to the group of people in the room at the time. So, not only did Will Smith show himself to be completely out of touch, he also alienated a lot of his own clique and peers. It was a complete brainfart, and it can't be seen to be OK to do that kind of thing, just because you're rich and famous.

When the red mist of anger descends it can make even the most seemingly sensible human being do crazy irrational things.

red mist is some BS excuse people use.

No one ever seems to see it when it's a person who they know could kick there ass., it's only when they think it's someone weaker

no it's not. i've seen plenty of instances of someone getting their ass kicked because they couldn't control their anger and confronted someone considerably more capable than them.

Lol it's pretty weird seeing Jim Carrey talk about a serious issue (kept expecting him to pull a goofy grin and say something funny) but he's 100% correct imo.

Also not mentioned as much elsewhere, but I think he's completely right to be disappointed in the whole audience of film industry people for cheering him on so soon after he'd just hit Chris.

Kimmel's take on it was funny too, well the clips at least anyway. There's a clip there of Will SMith showing a kid also called Chris on stage how to fake a slap :D
