no i don't openly admit to there being no consequences - there is. it also is about the why. randomly wandering up to someone and slapping them is a whole different to slapping someone who has just insulted you or your wife.

Exactly, instead of the joke fallling flat (which it did) and being quickly forgotten, now everyone is talking about it, as well at the rumours concerning a young raper and his wife.

It's a massive fail.

The why, a joke is not a reason to assault someone. Is it?

Tell me where does it say in the legislation that it is? I know you will say the law doesn't say that. Your defence isn't in law, you admit that the law will say assault is not right. The problem is that the line you are treading is grey, which I admit, that is my initial reaction. A slap is proportionate to the insult made. I know that is your reason but it really is not. If that is the reason then how do you define all the details? Joke are insulting all the time, the oscars insult everyone in the audience every year, much worse, that joke was lame, bad taste but the line is never get physical.

You know that.

also, if you come up and punch me hard in the face and i'm ok then yes i would expect zero consequences from the law. i would however expect you would require medical assistance of some sort.

This conversation between you two has now reached Peak Internet Forum chat , the stage at which one poster boasts about how tough they are and can beat the other up. All we need now is for someone to mention Hitler/Nazi's and we have the full house :D
 
The stupidest part is (obviously with hindsight, but still) he could've so easily handled it like this:

Do nothing initially, I guess maybe glare at Chris if you wanted...

Then when you go up to accept Best Actor you can say your piece:

"I thought they usually get a comedian to host these things...
naah but really I'm so glad the awards are so much more inclusive now;
they'll let you be the host even if you can't come up with good jokes..."

Stick in an extra line about how he still thinks she's beautiful no matter what etc. jobs a goodun' he comes out not looking like a **** and hopefully salvages things

There is going to be a ton of jokes on Will and Jada for dayssss now. He has made it much worse, and who is going to host the Oscars now that slapping the host is open season?

Want there a whole things she sat on TV and told him about she was having an affiar to his face etc?...That was a meme things for a very long time.
