Windows 10 FAQ

I found this guide just now on customising the login screen image: http://www.howtogeek.com/223875/how-to-change-the-login-screen-background-on-windows-10/ (last part of the article).

Wondered if anyone had tested that method at all?

I've used the registry tweak to use a single colour, which works fine. I haven't tried the image tool yet, but I've read that it works okay.

yeah I have done the regedit to enable accent colour instead of the w10 login background and like it but haven't used the tool.

I would rather not use someone else scripts to edit the resource files for the login screen.

Hopefully msft will allow this to be changed at some point

Import to internet explorer then import to edge. Currently edge only imports from ie.

Edit: Just read. Export from ie, delete them all, import again then import to edge.

It imported fine from Chrome on my Sons PC. But it had never imported from Firefox for me on any PC I've upgraded.

First off. Sorry if this has been answered before.

I just got my ssd back from RMA and want to put W10 on it.

Can i just put my W8 on and activate, then upgrade. (I have W8 PRO Retail and have W10 on USB)

Or should i let it update to 8.1 and then upgrade.

Thanks in advance guys.

Also a question regarding iso

If you buy the retail pen drive kit of win 10 professional can you download the ISO and just use a dvd and the supllied key instead.

Also are retail kits reusable or are they going to be hardware tied. I can't find a answer on this some people are saying retail will be tied to the motherboard too? ? ?

If you want the free upgrade, install 8.1 first, allow it to show the w10 upgrade icon to reserve your copy then upgrade to 10, then fresh install 10 after :)

Thanks.

Could i not just upgrade form 8 to 10 using the iso in windows then?

yeah you can but I worded my post wrong, hopefully this is clearer:

  1. Install windows 8/8.1
  2. Go through windows updates so that the little update installs that shows the w10 icon in the taskbar
  3. use that icon to reserve your copy which registers your mobo unique ID on msft servers
  4. upgrade from ISO to windows 10
  5. activate windows 10
  6. do a fresh install of windows 10
  7. activate again
  8. enjoy

Just had a strange problem installing W8.

Said the key was for a upgrade only and not a clean install. I have the box and discs and it is clearly full retail, plus have not had this problem before.

Luckily a mate had 8.1 on a usb and that installed fine. Saved some time updating as well, first update being W10. :)

Fresh install here I come. :D

Let us know how it goes :) lots of people here have gone through the process you are about to go through so any questions will be answered.

Just had a thought.

Do I delete both partitions to do the clean install, or do I leave the System Reserved partition as is?

Have you upgraded from 8 to 10 first?

If so, and only if you upgraded, you can do a fresh install and 100% wipe the system drive. I did that.
