Windows 10 FAQ

Guys, i am installing windows 7 so i can upgrade to 10 straight away, do i have to do all the windows 7 updates before upgrading to 10 ? hope not, cheers

once W7 is installed, download the ISO file, extract this and run the setup.exe and this should start the upgrade process to W10.

make sure your W7 install is activated before doing the upgrade to W10!

I did mine from the ISO I downloaded and then done a clean install with no issues.

as you are running from within windows it will do a upgrade to W10 and then you can do a clean install after

try it, don't think you have too as it was only a requirement to get the W10 icon to appear in the system tray.

once W7 is installed and activated run the setup.exe from the downloaded ISO file and it should do the upgrade

I have built a new system recently, and what I did was a fresh install of Windows 7, and then an immediate upgrade to Windows 10 using the 'refresh' - or whatever it's called - option which afaik is effectively a fresh installation. Everything has been fine since. I used the ISO from within Win 7.

You don't need the updates or the icon. You just need SP1 and then just run the inataller from within 7 and select upgrade. The updates and icon were just all about reserving 10 to allow Microsoft to preload the files onto machines to prevent being swamped on release day.

Where do i get the installer from for win 10 upgrade, cheers

Definitely wait if you have a Surface 2. Although the Surface Pro3 we have at work updated ok, Windows 10 destroyed battery life on my Surface Pro 2. Even after finishing index tasks etc and turning off all background apps it would drain the battery in a day where 8.1 would sit on standby all week and still have a charge left. I rolled it back

Been trying all day to install win 7 pro 64 from a usb stick, keep getting CD / DVD driver missing, tried everything, moving from one usb 2 port to another usb 2 port(like it says when i google the problem, but that not work for me), any ideals ?
