Windows 10 FAQ

Been trying all day to install win 7 pro 64 from a usb stick, keep getting CD / DVD driver missing, tried everything, moving from one usb 2 port to another usb 2 port(like it says when i google the problem, but that not work for me), any ideals ?

I have the same issue with a Skylake build I did. I'm thinking of trying to burn the ISO to DVD instead.

Haven't tried yet.

Guys i activated my windows 7 pro 64 install, then used the media creation tool to upgrade to windows 10 pro, but im getting windows in not activated with code 0xC004C003 , was a legit bought win 7 key as well, any ideals ?

Right, finally got windows 10 to activate, after like 6 reboots over a few hours, now to secure erase my ssd(format i think) and do a clean install of win 10, i want to install win 10 in UEFI mode, any thing special i have to do, i know for installing win 7 in UEFI you had to use rufus to make a usb uefi bootable, cheers

When you phone Microsoft, you don't speak to a person it's all automated number punching stuff.

As I am going to be doing a similar swap soon, I'd be interested in how this pans out.

Yes, but i am sure i read somewhere ages ago, that there is a number to phone and speak to a human for help, god knows where you get that number from thou, hopefully someone will reply.

Not sure same model of motherboard would matter but I installed 10 on my previous motherboard then on my new one few weeks later without issues, it's not the Windows 10 activation that you need to worry about because you have to install previous Windows anyway before upgrading to 10. If you have run out of activations on the previous Windows just give them a call and go through the process and tell to them it's only installed on one PC then upgrade to 10.

But how did microsoft know you was activated on your new board(did you have to reactivate it), maybe you had a retail copy, then you can have it on any machine anyway, mine upgraded from oem win 7, i thought new windows 10 was activated per motherboard, once you have upgraded to 10 you cant then use your 7 key to upgrade agai, this is my worry..

I just installed Windows 7 first which still had activations left for whatever the period of time they allow so many activations, I then installed Windows 10 over that with option to not keep anything and it saw the previous Windows was activated so it also activated. As I did this once for the old motherboard and again within weeks on the new motherboard using the same Windows 7 as the initial install it doesn't delete the older Windows key it seems, this maybe because of using the same hard drive for all the installs and it saw that though, I'm not sure.

It will tell you on screen which number to call for your country when you try to activate, I'm not sure but it might give you a real Indian to speak to if you fail to input the key correctly or just wait, not sure though, give it a Google.

Ok mate, thx for your replys, when i upgraded from 7 to 10 after a few days i chouse to delete the old windows folder(7), so i thought that meant i cant use my windows 7 key again, guess i will see when i get a new board.

Does anyone know if the Show windows side by side is knackered in W10 or is it the very basic driver from Dell for my 34" U3415W monitor the cause of the problems? When I select that option I get the windows side by side but rather than two windows taking up the whole screen or three windows taking a third each etc the windows take up a very small part of the screen.

I would have thought that Windows should be able to cope as it has recognised the monitor and can run it at the right resolution.
