Windows 10

Microsoft have released a statement saying not to install it on the New Surface 3, probly the same for any other Surface!
Just Surface 3 I think - it's the first device on the market with Intel Cherrytrail so there's been no drivers baked into the W10 builds yet.

I reinstall 10074 from fresh to see if it would fix some hdmi problems and it has fixed some of the problems i was having but it has created some new ones.

When i first logged in they had changed the create an account screen and i was not able to create a local account. I had to sign in with an ms account and then create a local account using computer management.

Might sound silly, but have to ask, never considered installing a Windows preview before...

My MX100 SSD has 2 partitions, Windows 8.1 is installed.

If I clear the second partition, can I safely install the Windows 10 preview on the second partion using the "Windows Update" preview installer, keeping my 8.1 intact?

Looks like windows 10 is being reported as the last variation of windows

With only update packages available then

Do you think its because they want to stay in a safe place? What with the catastrophic balls up of window 8? Seems drastic though to say no more editions of the os

No, I think they are just the last to join the modern way of doing things.

What other OSs in any consumer devices still operate in an isolated, purchased single version way? Android, iOS, Windows Phone, OSX, Linux desktop OSs, everything is iterative.

This won't be the last 'version' of Windows. It will be the last version sold as a stand alone version. From here on it will be updates like the move from 8 to 8.1, delivered through the OS.

I reckon it is for business benefit more then anything. It's a huge pain going between Windows versions.

I'm unsure how a moving target is an improvement. With no version numbers to differentiate API features how are people supposed to write system requirements? Are people going to specify certain patch levels that they support up to? Or are we (as I suspect) going to have Windows 10 Update 1 in 2016, and Update 2 in 2017 with the accompanying policies in place to hold machines at certain versions.

The issues supporting Windows upgrades were not because the XP changed to a 7.

MS have done numbered versions since, well, Windows 1.0.

Any minor updates will just slot in like Windows Updates do now, and then major updates will get numbered. We will see 10.1, then 10.2, etc etc.

And then this will be what people base system requirements on. Not really any different to now.

i don't think they'll give major updates numbers e.g 10.1 tbh, i think it'll stay as win 10.

everybody on win10 will have the same major updates installed because i am guessing they won't make the major updates optional

i think i read the first update is in june 2016 and second in October 2016...

ahh i couldn't resist. on 10074. Holy fast!

Also cortana is actually... amazing?!

Project spartan or whatever seems really nice to but.. google already knows my entire life and has reddit enhancement and other such nice extensions.

Really REALLY nice on a 4k screen too. All my scaling issues are gone. In fact using a 1440p and 2160p screen side by side in this build is a dream.
