Windows 10

I see that Windows will be the last version to be released.

What do you think their business model will be? Paying for service packs? Only allowing apps from an app store to run, so they get their money from developers? Monthly sub for a premium service?

What makes you think Microsoft make any money from selling OS software, especially to consumers like us?

They're a business, and pretty much a monopoly in terms of operating systems for typical use. Windows must have originally made MS money as they released new versions every few years, but I assume not so much any more hence stopping it. Did they not make money from Windows then?

They did but it's been falling.
Again keynote is a good place if you want info. they even have a nice revenue graph before and after.

They will not ban people from selling 3rd party software outside the store, in fact they've appeared to make it easier. Although there's not much details on it.

They make there money from services, office 365, one drive, app store, business support, Skype, Xbox movies/music etc. Which is also why they're selling those services on ios/android.

Retail OSs are a small, and probably disproportionatly annoying piece of Microsoft's Revenue stream.

Business licencing for all their services including OSs is where the moneys at.

Think I've made a huge mistake putting this on my Pro3, this doesn't seem of any use, tablet mode is laughable, Don't see how its touch screen friendly at all, Also sparten has no tablet version, no address bar from the bottom etc?

that what i mean MS should have kept the windows 8/8.1 start screen just for tablet mode in windows 10. it was more touch friendly, example when u open the start screen then open the all apps menu everything is nice and big enough to easily use.

Microsoft have released a statement saying not to install it on the New Surface 3, probly the same for any other Surface!

Tablet mode doesn't really work, but I don't think that's a problem.

I'm expecting them to sort out a good desktop experience and then just copy/paste the 8.1 tablet interface in ready for launch.

Tablet users are not the target audience MS are trying to engage with during these previews.

People are very quick to forget that W10 isn't finished :p.

I tried the preview when it very first came around about a year ago and loved it, and that was before they added in any actual new features but As a main OS i found it too unstable and went back to 8.1 around november ish time.

Now i've got 80mb internet instead of a measly 3mb im considering getting hold of it again.

Is it worth grabbing now before full release? should I just wait a couple of months?

My main concern is stability and obviously this is still techically a beta version. Just want a rough idea if its worth doing?

My computer is mainly used for gaming so its not mission critical but I do a lot of study for my degree too and random crashes etc are... annoying :)

It'll be more than a few months. Likely October.
It's upto you as long as you are ok running beta software and the issues that can bring.
It's pretty darn stable other than things they are working on like start menu. But actual games and other software is fine.
Only real issue I've had is with a sound card driver, which I just can't get working on pc. But laptop works fine.

I updated last night and got to 10074 and I'm on fast ring

Yeah, sorry 1074
