Windows 10

Same as any "expert" from forums or sales-helplines, should be ignored 95% of the time, they are monkeys they haven't got a clue what is actually happening and they should be saying we don't know, but they nearly always make stuff up.

Ms forum is particularly bad, are they actually MS employees. Or more like experts like on giffgaff.

Ah that's new, didn't know! So you're saying that all mobo makers are going to be putting unique identifiers in the bios of their mobos?

Not sure how the hell theyre going to pull this "clean install thing off" then.

Only on pre installed systems and it's not the mobo manufacturers but the system manufactures load the serial key into the bios. Then windows just finds the key from the bios and activates. So no issue with clean installs.

i didn't ask anything in that post, i said i been thinking, asking and thinking are to different things

win7 oem so it'll be win8 oem > win10 oem... which i know....

but going by this http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/lic...ensing-for-personal-use.aspx#fbid=PSDjAM_Hwb4 oem is not for personal use, well win8 oem was... but theres never been a windows 8.1 retail..

Windows 8 changed licenses

Windows 7 OEM pre installed and windows 7 OEM is tied to mobo.

Windows 8 and 8.1 pre installed OEM is tied to mobo,
Windows 8 and 8.1 OEM purchased is transferable.

They really ***** up calling it OEM and changing the licenses.

Ny windows upgrade you just applied the underlying license.

So you aren't going from win7 > win8 > win 10.
You're simply continuing to use your win 7 license, with what ever t&cs apply.

Yep, upgrades always use the underlying t&cs,
So your win7 is your original key and as that's OEM, technically it's tied to mobo. Although 99% of the time, you'll have no issue phone activating on a different mobo.

My original key is win7 retail, from the cheap release offer so I'm fine.

Those who got win 8 OEM = essentially retail. Minor difference in licenses but nothing worth debating. They are totally transferable.

That's how upgrades in the passed have worked.

New key doesn't change the fact it's an upgrade and adopts the license from the previous version.

It's free forever if you upgrade in the first year. It's just a limited time promotional offer.
Nothing to get confused about.
No monthly charge wither.

Depending on version no faff

Or RT at all it would seem. I missed that as I don't have (or care about) RT devices, but I assume that means there is no Windows 10 RT?

There will be an update, they've said that in the passed. They just aren't calling it w10. As there's no proper desktop and w10 for mobiles isn't meant for anything above 8"
Although I will assume it will be w10 for mobile in all but name.

But other than saying there will be an update, they haven't said anything else. No times, or what it will contain.

Tbh I'm not bothered, the tegra 4 is getting slow. Will move to cherry trail or skylake tablet, if any ever get released.

If I had the money. An 8" cherry trail for when traveling to check dslr photos on and general media and a ~12" skylake with keyboard.

The skylake reference tablet shown off today at computex looks sweet. Shame I can't find a video of the whole Intel keynote.

Oh god I just thought, is this going to **** up now TV. With only one change a month.
Think I should email sky and see if they are going to suspend or do something about it.

If it is affected which I think it will be, at least on clean install. It'll take 3 months before getting sky back on all devices. Not so sure about upgrade affecting it.
