Windows 10

i posted about that, but im not sure if this information was from MS?

Or RT at all it would seem. I missed that as I don't have (or care about) RT devices, but I assume that means there is no Windows 10 RT?

There will be an update, they've said that in the passed. They just aren't calling it w10. As there's no proper desktop and w10 for mobiles isn't meant for anything above 8"
Although I will assume it will be w10 for mobile in all but name.

But other than saying there will be an update, they haven't said anything else. No times, or what it will contain.

Tbh I'm not bothered, the tegra 4 is getting slow. Will move to cherry trail or skylake tablet, if any ever get released.

If I had the money. An 8" cherry trail for when traveling to check dslr photos on and general media and a ~12" skylake with keyboard.

The skylake reference tablet shown off today at computex looks sweet. Shame I can't find a video of the whole Intel keynote.

I would strongly recommend that everyone who qualifies for the free upgrade takes it. Windows 10 is the future direction for Microsoft, and you have the oportunity to get onto that version for free.

Yeah, it would a little silly not to take up this offer. I feel for some people who will purely miss this deal because they don't know much about computers. When we bought my girlfriend a laptop, it was preinstalled with W8. I know she would miss this chance to grab W10 if I wasn't around, so the year gives me chance to sort that out also.

I received an email telling me that mine will be available to install from 29th July. Is this the official release date?

I dunno, I think the simplicity of "click here for the Windows 10 Update" will actually catch quite a lot of the casual users. After all, how many people out there have had to clear all the toolbars from IE after their family members just randomly clicked Yes on every prompt that ever pops up while browsing ;)?

Tbh I'm surprised none of my family have phoned me yet to ask what this Windows 10 thing is thats popped up on their machines.

Cheers. Was wondering when I might see mine but this update is 'pending restart' on my PC. :)

Which is odd, since in both instances when that update was installed on my laptop a restart wasn't required (I removed it as I wasn't getting the notification and the standard way of triggering it didn't work, so I've now got it installed again and as long as I've read the task information correctly I should get the notification when I next start it up although I might have gotten it already if I hadn't installed since I think it was set to trigger yesterday).

My HP Stream 7 had to restart for the update too (Windows 8.1), so perhaps it just depends what else is installed at the same time?

It was the only update both times.

The first time it was done automatically and the second I did myself with neither asking for a reboot.

Oh god I just thought, is this going to **** up now TV. With only one change a month.
Think I should email sky and see if they are going to suspend or do something about it.

If it is affected which I think it will be, at least on clean install. It'll take 3 months before getting sky back on all devices. Not so sure about upgrade affecting it.

Hi,

Can anyone clarify if going the Windows Update, upgrade route from w7 64bit will likely mean that all steam/uplay/orgin/battlenet game installs will move across OK. Or will we have to go the pain in the arse route of fresh install?

Saw the question asked but unanswered.

Cheers.

Should work fine, all my games even on the earliest preview worked fine, in fact everything did.

Apart form on board sound. But even that's been sorted out in the newest build.

Thanks guys, sounds good. I've always done fresh installs in the past, so this will be my first in OS "upgrade".

Shame I'll be losing Media Center for my TV side of things. Not sure about the UI appearance either. But its free, so I'm in.
