If you cant remove domain. You have to wait for release then manually run the update, from within windows update. I assume that means w10 will show up as an optional update.
Am I the only one who doesn't see the point in the 'free' upgrade to Windows 10 - am I missing something here?
Extended support for Windows 7 ends in 2020 right? So I know I'm going to get critical patches until that time for Windows 7. If I use my Windows 7 licence to upgrade to Windows 10, am I not effectively converting that licence into a Windows 10 licence, i.e. my Windows 7 discs will become useless.
I read an article on Extreme Tech where it says you will be able to do clean installs with your upgrade licence onto the same device, and that, to me, is surely a step backwards, considering the amount of times hardware changes in our PCs?
It sounds like my retail Windows 7 licence will be turned into a Windows 10 OEM licence is what I'm trying to say.
Or am I just making up 'faffage'?!
Faffage, definitely faffage. You're getting an OS upgrade for free, that's a nicer faster OS than Windows 7.
It doesn't look like the Windows Update appears on any domain machine unless the Admins push it out.
Your making up faffage .
Your Retail Windows 7 gets upgraded to a Retail Windows 10.
How do I go about reserving a copy for my laptop which is already running a clean install of technical preview? Should the reservation icon still appear or will I have to reinstall 7 first?
The simplest way to look at it is if you have a key that isn't embedded din your BIOS, you can transfer it.

You should automatically get upgraded to the release version via Windows Update. No need to reinstall anything.
What do you need to do in order to get the Upgrade prompt on a Domain/Enterprise PC?

Nothing decent for live TV, no.
I've been trying DVBViewer but couldn't even get it to pause, fast-forward or rewind, which should be the very minimum a paid-for TV viewer should do. Other than that it seemed OK, but the EPG was a pain to set up.
With MCE, despite it's problems, everything was at least seamless.
It's enough to keep me on 8.1.
So for No-One, you will have to reinstall your copy of 7 to get the upgrade.
Had the same issue as you Kissenger. I done it by finding the installed file. Go to: Local disk C > Windows > System 32 > GWX (If installed that's where it will be) and just click on the windows icon that says GWX next to it, that should bring up the icon on your taskbar.
The free upgrade is for home users, not enterprise customers. Which version of Windows is the machine running?
Retail, OEM or volume licensing?
The multi desktop idea has been around for about 15 year in Linux GUIs. I never used them then, and I can't see me ever using them now .
I'm sure some people will find them really helpful, but personally I have no use for them.
