Windows 10

Here is the URL if you need it (though it's everywhere by now LOL )

Start here: direct from MS

Running it under Hyper-V VM now (Win 8.1 Pro) and it seems perfectly fine atm (tho obviously not done anything noteworthy with it as yet)!

Can easily see this replacing Win 8 smoothly, looking forward to Consumer Preview which, judging by this showing, should be great! :)

Are you guys using the tech preview as your main OS or dual booting/VM?

I backed up my appdata folder and some other custom program files folders then upgraded from win 7 on main ssd. In case i needed to go back to win7 or there was issue with upgrade but everything worked so far.

Just neeb writing a bunch of feedback on the feedback app.

Argh!

What are you guys using to mount the ISO within Windows? I'm on 7 and its refusing to let me carry on unless I uninstal Daemon Tools, but thats whats running the ISO!

What the hell, this isn't 2001. Who still uses Daemon tools. Magic ISO is where its at, or Windows 8

Main O/S you can do an upgrade. I did create an image of my windows 8.1 drive just in case but so far it's superb.
Just bare in mind that there is unlikely to be an upgrade path from this preview (or any other pre-release version) to the the final retail.

So only do this if you are happy starting over, or restore back to Windows 8 and upgrade from there.

I am liking it so far, but at this stage Windows 10 really isn't anything more than Windows 8.1 with a Start Menu. I am playing spot the difference with my main PC which is running Windows 8.1 with Start8 and I am struggling to see any significant changes.

One of the best new features is one that they demoed during the press event; proper cut, copy and paste in the command window. Not really enough to warrant skipping a version!

I guess it is more of a marketing exercise to get enterprise back on board, which would be a harder sell if it was called Windows 8.2 (but then 8+2=10).

I find 10 a lot quicker it feels snappier and boots insanely quick under 5 seconds....

It's windows 8 fixed for the people who wanted it like 7. At least they have listened this time.

I had an issue with quake live and some one else had an issue with some racing games. So if you are concerned about game compatibility it may be best to wait for amd/nvidia drivers that specifically state compatibility with windows 10 as at the moment i am just using the windows 8 amd drivers.

bf4 works and so does some other games. other than that i don't see any reason not to upgrade.

From the sound of things i can't see them expiring this trial until the next release is ready as it looks like the idea to get people on to the new version and keep them on it.
