Windows 10

No, it means your data, as it says right above it.

I don't think I'll be installing Windows 10 on my PC right away but fortunately I do now have a Lenovo Miix3 tablet which I'll upgrade first to see how things are. I'll leave my PC for a while and maybe just do a clean install when I'm ready.

Might be time to start a new thread with a comprehensive FAQ at the start if someone keen is willing to stay on top of things to keep it updated? There's a lot of good questions with corresponding good answers and links that get lost very quickly.

Or maybe Glaucus? I don't know if he's still active on the thread or not, I haven't followed the whole thing.

I really wish it would hurry up, need to format pc as it's playing up but can't be bothered do it again next eeek.

Why not simply get to the bottom of why it is playing up? I can't ever remember having to take such drastic action as having to format my PC and I have been using one since the days of DOS.

You might actually learn something and find the whole experience enjoyable. Just a thought!

To be honest I guess most people don't have time/patience to troubleshoot properly...

I could do that but balls to spending time finding out. It's not os breaking just a little annoying every now and again.

On top of that i will be upgrading on release so can't be bothered to waste time fixing it.

some people work 8-12 hours a day and or have other things to do, they don't want to spend 3+ hours troubleshooting their pc..

Very much so, especially if you work in IT!

It's the very reason I mainly use a Mac. No software issues of any note in over nine years. <dons flame suit>

The Windows machine is used for gaming and that's it, it's still running an installation of Windows 7 from the day it launched. If it ain't broke, don't fix it or mess with it.

Very odd thing to say given this is after all a tech forum? This is one of the reasons Windows is often blamed for users woes. Nine times out of ten it's not the OS but other programmes or just incompetent users.

I too work all week but actually enjoy the process of getting to the bottom of things. Is 3+ hours a figure with any meaning? It could after all simply be 3+ minutes.

are you al still opt'd to receive insider builds or will you opt out
I'm staying on Insider Builds for now.

When I first installed Windows 10 preview (maybe ~6 months ago), it was a clean install on a newly formatted HD. I've been updating that ever since to the current Windows 10 build(10240) which is as close to a RTM version as any further builds are likely to be for Windows 10. The concept of an RTM build wont really exist for Windows 10 for the foreseeable future, as it's constantly updated.

Build 10240 has been sent to OEMs to put on new machines, so it's as "final" as it's going to get.

To get a "free" legit activated Windows 10, you need to update from a previous legit windows 7 or 8 install.

Another Alternative to keep an activated version of Windows 10, is to use a previously activated Windows 10 from being on the Insider Program, and to stay on the insider program.

To stay on the Insider Program, you need to use A Microsoft Account Login, take the earliest of builds/updates and accept that diagnostic information will be sent to MS regarding your use of the OS.

why?

everybody is different. some people don't find it enjoyable troubleshooting big issues..

for me I like doing all that troubleshooting and fixing issues. but as I said everybody isn't the same, and just because they use this forum doesn't mean they enjoy/want to troubleshoot big issues, formatting or restoring from an image is some times much faster/easier then troubleshooting big issues

The point I make is that you don't know if the job is likely to be big or small. I have full images of my Windows setup as well as clones of my Windows VM on my Mac plus TM's too.

They are insurance against worst case scenario. Thing is, if I take the easy route then I never get to the bottom of the problem i.e. is it my fault or some other reason.

ẃhy troubleshoot? just restore from your last daily differential.

That is the fun bit! Think of the achievement once you have solved it.

Did you not enjoy Meccano projects when you were a youngster?

We have a different idea of fun.

End of the day there is nothing of note on this machine its just for gaming and nothing more. Its gonna be wiped for 10 anyway and the issue isn't remotely a big deal just annoying every now and again.

Not really a couple of page discussion ha.
