Windows 10

Does anyone know if we'll get a new product key when we are upgraded to Windows 10? I have an upgrade only Windows 8 product key and it's driving me mad because I can't do a clean install of Windows 8. Also, does anyone know if we'll be able to do a clean install of 10? I have a new SSD sitting here doing nothing at the moment

Why can't you? I upgraded my windows 98 licence to windows 8 and I do clean installs just fine.

I will be going windows 10 (free upgrade) and will be doing clean install also. Clean install is a must for me.

NO, Microsoft will not given out new product key as part of free upgrade. Your key will remain on your Windows 8 to activated automatically on clean install once u have completed upgrade windows 10 activated on your hardware. For clean install of Windows 10, you must skip enter product key twice to get it activated.

Sure, but he can still do a clean install... Surely? Do not see why he could not. As long as it is on the same computer, then no issues.

You will need to upgrade first from 8-10 and then once on 10 do a clean install.

Edit: Seems my phone quoted the wrong post. Sorry.

Huh, deja vu?

So Windows 10 will allow us to do a clean install of 10? The reason I can't do a fresh install is because I keep on getting this message on the Windows 8 setup:

I've tried using a placeholder/generic key and it gives me a different error saying 'can't connect to the internet'. All I want to do is create a Windows 8 ISO that I can then install on my new SSD, but it won't let me do it for some bizarre reason. I can't find my copy of Windows 7 anywhere so basically I'm screwed.

Do a fresh install of 8 using a generic key or skipping the key entry. Once installed re-run the setup as an upgrade and use your upgrade key.... :) means you install twice but gets you a fresh install...

I've got Windows 8 installed on my old SSD but I just bought a new one and want to create an ISO of 8 so I can install it on the new one. I have tried the generic product key that I could find for Windows 8 Pro but when I hit next on the setup it said 'can't connect to the internet at the moment' or words to that effect, and I don't see any way to skip the key entry stage. I just want to get to the next step where it asks you if you'd like to install 8 on a flashdrive/create an ISO but I can't get that far.

I'm done with it, I tried it a few weeks ago and took it off after about 10 minutes because of the ghastly icons and UI, I have tried it again for a full week to give it a proper test run but I am not liking it all, although the UI does look more improved in comparison to the earlier test builds I just don't like what Microsoft are doing.

The auto updates are basically killing me especially with the Nivida drivers I can't even open a game without it crashing in the first 5-10 seconds. I wouldn't totally discourage anyone from trying or using Windows 10, after all only you can decide for yourself if the upgrade is worth it or not but personally I'm going back to Windows 7 where everything just works the way I want it to. I can appreciate Windows 10 is new and of course there are expected hiccups but force feeding me with updates I don't need or never asked for is destroying my experience with Windows 10. There are a lot of things I don't like such as the Metro tiles and other UI elements, but there are some positives such as the OS generally feeling a little more snappy and responsive.

Either way I would rather have stability and full control over my OS then what Windows 10 basically tries to do by holding your hand and spoon feeding you with updates that just break everything.

Maybe in a few months time I will have another look at it, but right now it's coming off and Windows 7 is going back on!

Worried?

"Gamers Should Be Worried About Windows 10 Automatic Updates"
http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkai...e-worried-about-windows-10-automatic-updates/

I read that article earlier and I concur with it from my own experience.

Who ever decided that they know best what updates to automatically push on people need a reality check, just because the majority of PC users do not have a clue how to properly set up there system is no reason to take away decisions from power users. Sure you can disable the auto updates by stopping the service but then you wont get the security updates.

I believe Windows 10 was designed for the PC users who need there hands holding. I prefer full control over my OS, I know what I need to install and what not to, I don't need Windows 10 telling me how I should use my PC!
